The four-track exploration of emotion marks the second release on the RUINS label. Woven Thorns continues to experiment while developing her style.
Los Angeles-based producer Woven Thorns has delivered her newest release, the Devour EP, out now on her RUINS imprint. The four-track offering is dark, sinister, and brooding, full of experimentation and vocal manipulation. The second release on the label she co-founded with producer Mesck, Devour reflects the progress she’s made as an artist since her monumental From Grace EP in 2020.
Over the course of four songs, Woven Thorns takes listeners on a sonic journey of heavy basslines, somber vocals, and low end frequencies. “Stillness Between Breaths” is an experimental track with intricate sound design, while “Devour” features dark, atmospheric vibes and gritty, aggressive basslines.
Woven Thorns’ haunting melodies continue through the rest of the album, with “The Pain of Infinity” and “Roses Bleed” encapsulating the industrial and hypnotic sounds for which she’s known. All are beautifully chaotic, showcasing Woven Thorns’ restraint and minimal style.
Woven Thorns continues to push the boundaries of dubstep. Her ear for crafting captivating, eerie soundscapes — coupled with creepy lyrics, vocal layering, and grinding basslines — is second to none. And with her RUINS label, she can be authentically herself and release the kind of bass music that will strike a chord with horror and dubstep fans alike.
Halloween may be over, but Woven Thorns isn’t letting that stop her as the Devour EP is out now. Stream it now on Spotify or your preferred platform and keep an ear out to see what haunting goodness she creates next.
