An X user claimed that release artwork for Skrillex and 100 gecs member Dylan Brady’s collaboration, “hit me where it hurts x,” was a photo they did not grant permission to use.
When X user @mourningdove77 came across Skrillex and Dylan Brady of 100 gecs fame’s joint single, “hit me where it hurts x” featuring Caroline Polachek, they were allegedly taken aback to find that a photo they took had been slightly altered and used for the release artwork.
In a retweet, @mourningdove77 shared an apparent screen shot from their phone with the image in their gallery. “This is a photo I took last year if anybody cares cause what the fuck hahahahahaha,” they wrote. “I guess I don’t know how real life works I just am struggling to even buy groceries for myself so this is wild and crazy and depressing,” read their subsequent tweet.
To his credit, Skrillex (real name Sonny Moore) responded swiftly. “We had selected this artwork based on what my team had shared and was completely unaware that this photo was taken by you,” he wrote on X. “Though this single cover was outsourced, I take 100% accountability. I would love to contact you and do anything in my power to make amends and make this right. My absolute deepest apologies and regrets that this happened.”
Mira Joyce — the designer responsible for the release’s visual accompaniment — also tweeted at @mourningdove77. “Really sorry for this, genuine mistake but i want to make this right,” she wrote. “dmed you.”
Moore needs no introduction among EDM fans, having revolutionized sound design in the realm of bass music over the past 15 years. After his back-to-back 2023 albums, Quest For Fire and Don’t Get Too Close, saw him explore new musical horizons, his April album, FUS, saw him return to his heavy dubstep sound of old.
@mourningdove77 has not publicly responded to Moore or Joyce’s communications at the time of writing. You can find other images they’ve captured via their X account.
