Raw Speed Garage Is King In MUCKANIKS’ Latest EP, ‘HARDLINE13’

MUCKANIKS fully embraces the energy of raw speed garage in HARDLINE13, a four-track project out now via Hardline.

By the time listeners get to MUCKANIKS‘ final track in his latest EP, HARDLINE13, it’s clear that the artist isn’t here to play. It’s also transparent why the UK record label Hardline, founded by DJ Cosworth and known for their no-nonsense club music ethos, is home of the four-track raw speed garage project.

HARDLINE13 cements the Essex producer’s spot at the forefront of the UK garage and speed garage resurgence that’s been shaking dancefloors from London to Los Angeles. Though MUCKANIKS isn’t a new name to those in the know (he’s been producing music since the age of 11) HARDLINE13 feels like a reintroduction into his sound. It’s a project that carries a unique sonic energy balanced between razor-sharp productions and a nostalgic pulse that transports you back to UK dancefloors in the ’90s.

Dropping ahead of the EP, MUCKANIKS leans into UKG’s crisp claps, warped basslines, and chopped vocal loops for “Baggidup,” seamlessly creating a raw, hard-hitting record. It’s so hard-hitting that it’s racked up major support from respected artists such as Interplanetary Criminal, Skream, Silva Bumpa, and Main Phase. Matching that energy, “Speakabox,” leans into pure fun. Its looping hook “speakabox jumping,” builds up into an infectious groove that feels fresh and pulsating.

Then there’s tracks, “Don’t Front” and “Represent,” which really highlight MUCKANIKS’ ability to balance chaos with control. “Don’t Front” dives deeper into the rave spirit, driven by a heavy bass and sharp vocal stabs that send a signal to get up and move. “Represent” later rounds out the EP with a darker, bass-heavy bounce that doesn’t loose momentum. Together, the two records capture the essence of HARDLINE13; raw, rhythmic, and tuned for crowds that aren’t looking to stand around.

It’s apparent that the EP thrives on controlled chaos. It’s tight, infectious, and made for big systems. Yet, beneath the heavy basslines and rave-ready energy lies a sense of craftsmanship that speaks to MUCKANIKS’ time in the scene. In short, HARDLINE13 isn’t just another speed garage record from a UK artist. It’s a reminder of where the sound came from and where it’s headed next.
