With the help of Dublin vocalist Reggie, Sammy Virji and Fred Again.. have delivered a simple yet effective dancefloor filler that goes by the name “Talk of the Town.”
What stone remains unturned for UK artists Fred Again.. and Sammy Virji, both soaring superstars in their own right? Well, they haven’t collaborated together — until now. “Talk of the Town” featuring Irish emcee Reggie marks their first joint project, making its title all the more apt.
Set to a stripped-down four-on-the-floor beat structure, “Talk of the Town” puts Reggie’s vocals front and center in the arrangement. A warped, metallic synth lead winds its way around the stereo image throughout the runtime of the track, letting the tension subside in calculated bursts to set bodies of listeners into motion.
“We just put on talk of the town up on the streaming places,” wrote Fred Again.. (real name Frederick Gibson) in an Instagram post. “Shoutout to Ireland’s very own Reggie and Sammi Virji of course.”
Gibson continued: “Some songs i work on take months or even years for me to feel happy with them, this is one of those ones that was about 27 minutes. Basically 3 elements and they just felt good from the jump and didn’t stop feeling good so here we are!”
Mentored by Brian Eno and having participated in the Red Bull Music Academy in Tokyo, Gibson has rocketed to superstardom post pandemic thanks to singles like “Turn On The Lights again..” and “Marea (We’ve Lost Dancing).” While Virji’s success is relatively modest, he’s still a powerhouse in his own right, emerging as one of the biggest names in UK garage in recent years.
Listen to “Talk of the Town” featuring Reggie, and keep an ear to the ground to find out if Fred Again.. and Sammy Virji collaborate again in the future.
