The Disco Express celebrates its 100th release in style with TDE100, a compilation curating standout cuts from Derrick Carter, Milfredo, Aleisha Lee, Magnolia, Bustin’ Loose, and more.
What do you get when you bring together a record label, international event series, and community-driven artists? All aboard, The Disco Express.
In an era where disco’s sound is often repackaged or sampled, the London-based label, event series, and DJ collective remains rooted in its soulful, funky origins. Once known for their loft parties in East London, Tom Lilly, better known as Bustin’ Loose, founded The Disco Express in 2017 for nu-disco, house, and soul-infused dance music, and took it global. The label has built a reputation for blending the warmth of vintage dance with the pulse of modern house.
With TDE100, a 15-track milestone compilation featuring nu-disco and house heavyweights, the collective celebrates not only its 100th release but also the global community it has cultivated across London, Mexico City, Rome, New York, and more, one groove at a time. In true Disco Express fashion, the label paired the release with a driving club train during this year’s ADE, perfectly tying concept and celebration together.
The mood is instantly celebratory with “Top of the World,” featuring Ayce & Spirit of House and Stephanie Sounds. It feels like an ascension; an instant high as Stephanie’s uplifting vocals become one with the lush horns and percussion in the background. What follows is a seamless journey through The Disco Express’ carefully hand-picked offerings: the soulful revivalism of The Wild Violets‘ “Sweet Redemption,” to the gospel-house warmth of Golden Gate & Inaya Day‘s “My Name Is Love,” and the heatwave of La Felix, Relaye, and DE SOFFER’s “Hot.”
The joy of soulful-house is felt throughout tracks like “Turn Around” with Gabriel Deb and Michelle Weeks and “I Believe,” featuring Bayside & Felmann, and singer Alyssah. As the compilation unfolds, the vibe turns sultrier. House pioneer Derrick Carter and Milfredo‘s re-rub mix of “Didn’t I” adds Chicago soul depth, while Mexican producer Disco Feelings offers “Cosmic Martini,” a boogie that feels perfectly stuck between the ’70s and ’80s.
Jazz, of course, has always paired well with house and disco, and Generoco’s “The Express” leans into that harmony with bright horns and lively keys. Dirty Supercar and John Morales’s “Get Down Boogie” keeps the retro flair alive through vibrant synths and a subtle guitar, while Third Attempt’s “A Little Deeper” softens the mood with a moving piano and a soulful vocal line. After all, another knack The Disco Express is known for is live sets, so selecting a few records with live instrumentals was a no-brainer.
Basslines and flirty vocals come through in Monsieur Van Pratt and Suki Soul’s “Stimulation (James Juke’s Hot Take),” making it a perfect track for those peak-hour dancefloor moments. Then comes label boss Bustin’ Loose with Magnolia and Catalina on “Paradise,” a radiant pool of strings and funk rhythm that captures the essence of The Disco Express. Meridian & Aleisha Lee’s “It Ain’t Easy” closes the collection with soulful grit serving as a reminder that joy in disco has always existed. That disco is timeless.
What makes TDE100 so compelling is the imprint’s devotion to the craft and mission to bridge old and new generations through the sounds of disco. In celebrating its 100th release, the collective doesn’t just honor disco’s past; it proves the genre’s flame still burns in the heart of modern dance music.
