Tony Romera talks about coming back to house, the story of his new label House Delivery, and what has been inspiring him in the scene lately.
Tony Romera has had an extensive and extremely notable career. He began making house music in the late 2000s, but over time, he explored a range of styles such as drum and bass, deep house, and big room sounds. Previous years have seen him collaborate with Good Times Ahead, Yolanda Be Cool, Dombresky, and Noizu, while also working with other French artists, including Tchami and Malaa. More recently, Tony has put his focus back on house music, with releases on Toolroom, Solid Grooves, and Defected, all of which showcase his unique French flair.
Now, Tony has started his own label, House Delivery. This project gives him an outlet to share not only his own tracks but also favorites from other artists he admires. With plenty of big plans ahead and strong support from Toolroom, it is going to be exciting to watch what comes next. The label’s first release, “Como Se Llama,” is a groovy deep tech house track perfect for the dancefloor, and it’s already received some love from the likes of Mau P, Hot Since 82, Chelina Manuhutu, and even DJ Snake.

Hey Tony, it’s been a few years since we’ve interviewed you, and I’ve been a huge fan for a long time. Excited to get into this!
Hey! Thank you so much for having me again, and thanks for the kind words. I really appreciate this.
You have produced everything from funk, disco house, to bass-driven club tracks. When you shift genres, what keeps your sound recognizable as Tony Romera? How have you been enjoying making house music?
It all started with house music in 2009-2010, I was producing only house, and after a long decade exploring stuff, I just came back to what I love: house and tech house. I just needed some groove and some minimal vibes.
Many fans first connected with you through Sans Merci and Bellecour, and now you are launching House Delivery. What lessons did you take from those earlier projects that shape how you are approaching this new label?
I was doing everything by myself (except for artworks) on SANS MERCI. It was taking so much time, and now, I’m touring more, so I don’t have this time anymore. I decided to collaborate with Toolroom and their great team to launch House Delivery. I’ve been working with them for a while now; they became my management recently, and now I’m helping with the label. I’m super happy and proud about this and excited for the future.

Looking ahead, what do you want House Delivery to mean for the community of artists around you, and how do you see it evolving in the next few years?
House Delivery is more than just a label; we want to create a family, with some incredible and talented producers, but also with some super-friendly fans. We had a great community with SANS MERCI, and I’m pretty sure most of them will follow us in this new journey. We have some great music coming, some cool events, and much more.
The label launched with your track, “Como Se llama”. How has the response to that track been so far?
The response has completely blown my mind. Seeing names like Mau P, Chelina Manuhutu, Danny Howard on BBC Radio 1, Low Steppa, Crusy, DJ Snake, Hot Since 82, and Seth Troxler all showing love has been unreal. It’s incredible to feel that everyone connected with the vibe I wanted to spread. I’m so thankful and inspired.
You have collaborated with a ton of artists, from HUGEL to Ibrahim Maalouf. What do you look for in a collaborator?
First of all, I only work with people I genuinely love, when there’s a real connection. And of course, I have to be a fan of their work too! For example, I recently released a collab with HUGEL on Defected. We’ve been friends since around 2010. Back then we were sharing music all the time. He was also a resident DJ in a club in the south of France where he used to open for me every time I played there. So releasing this collab after working on so many tracks together over the years feels like a full-circle moment. I love this guy, and I’m super proud of everything he’s achieving, he’s absolutely killing it!

You reached number one on Beatport with your remix of “Raw” and have released on labels like Toolroom, Solid Grooves Raw, and Black Book. What is one milestone you’ve achieved that you’re proud of through your close to 15-year career?
Releasing on Toolroom, Defected, and Solid Grooves were my biggest goals, but there’s always new goals to add to the list… I’m working hard to realize the next ones now! haha
You’ve done a lot of official and unofficial remixes over the years. What usually inspires you to make them?
I listen to a lot of music when I’m traveling or driving; those moments are often when I get my best ideas. Sometimes I’ll hear a sample I want to work on, or a track will just spark a new concept. I’ve got tons of notes on my phone so I don’t forget any of them… haha.
Any future plans, shows, or releases you can talk about that you’re excited for?
Yeah! I’m releasing a collab with the legends The Brothers Macklovitch (A-Trak, and Dave1 from Chromeo) and Mike Dunn on A-Trak’s label. I’m super proud to have worked with all these incredibly talented artists, who are also amazing humans!
Regarding the label, we have some amazing music from Jamie Coins, ROXY, Fer BR, and much more coming up, super excited!
