Hedex Unleashes Chaos on Debut LP ‘MHITR: The Album’

Hedex’s 17-track debut LP, MHITR: The Album, showcases his mastery at creating energetic and fun, yet highly technical, drum and bass anthems.

The most recognizable artists in electronic music are the ones who’ve crafted a distinct identity that extends beyond their sound. Rezz has her hypnogoggles, Dimension has his impossible-to-track cigarettes, and UK-based jump-up producer Hedex has built his entire brand around the catchphrase “My Home Is The Rave” that has become a mantra in DnB circles.

While his iconic set at Univerz Festival in 2015 put him on the map in the drum and bass world, his fame reached new heights in 2023 when he released the viral track “MHITR (Semi-Automatic)” with MC Eksman. Two years later, after countless singles, a My Home Is The Rave documentary, and sold-out MHITR shows stretching from Wembley Arena in London to the Hollywood Palladium, Hedex has finally unveiled his long-awaited debut album, MHITR: The Album.

Hedex wastes no time setting the album’s explosive tone, diving straight into a surge of high-octane energy with the opening track, “Rowdy (BLAOW!)” with Eksman. Although released as a single on August 15, the tune had already become a fan favorite long before its official drop, serving as the electrifying opener to Hedex’s sets and kicking them off with a surge of adrenaline that carries on through the night.

That eruption of pure jump-up madness keeps its momentum throughout the rest of the album in tracks like “IDK” with DON DARKOE, “Rhythm & Gash,” and “Meat Cleaver” with Jman and Mozey. These songs are emblematic of that infectiously silly and fun, bouncy sound that Hedex is best known for. MHITR goes out with its bang with its final track, the VIP version of the album’s namesake, and is a fresh variation that builds on the magnetic vitality of the original.

Although he has distinguished himself as a jump-up artist, Hedex explores new sonic territory in his first LP. “Can’t Decide” with Jozzy and e.motion features melodic vocals that smoothly run over laid-back, jungle soundscapes, while “SEND DEM” with Holy Goof and Doktor is an anthem with bass house sensibilities made for getting groovy on dancefloors.

A standout on the album is “Ringtone” with Basslayerz and Sullivan King. The track is an ambitious collision of jump-up and dubstep that meshes together perfectly. After being teased during Hedex’s set at EDC Orlando in 2024, fans eagerly awaited the finished product’s full release, and it did not disappoint.

But this isn’t the first time Hedex has joined forces with a dubstep artist to bridge the gap between the two genres and produce a cohesive banger. His collaboration with Subtronics and IRAH on “System Shock” back in February was met with admiration from fans across the bass music spectrum.

With its high-energy, aggressive basslines, jump-up has served as an easily accessible gateway for dubstep listeners to get into DnB. It’s no coincidence Hedex has become one of the faces of this new wave of DnB, as his newfound fame coincided with the resurgence of DnB in the US. And with “Ringtone” and the album at large, Hedex continues to push the boundaries of what bass music can be while showcasing his collaborative spirit and versatility as an artist.

Jaclyn Sersland

Jaclyn’s journey as a raver began in 2022, but her obsession with music dates back to her middle school days as an angsty emo kid. A firm believer in the emo to raver pipeline, she has found a strong sense of community in the rave scene united by a common ethos of PLUR and a shared love for heavy basslines. A longtime writer and now Master’s in Journalism student at Georgetown University, Jaclyn is passionate about using her voice to spotlight the EDM scene. In particular, she enjoys writing about drum and bass, the number 1 favorite genre of hers, although her music taste spans wide so you will catch her byline on many types of stories. Her favorite artists are Andromedik, Sub Focus, Dimension, GRiZ, Oliverse, Illenium, Grabbitz, Zedd, Basstripper, Subsonic, and more.
