Bournemouth-born, London-based DJ and producer Flava D drops a 15-track album featuring collaborators like MPH, Anaïs, Unglued, SOLAH, and more.
Flava D is telling the world exactly who she is through her newest release, Here & Now, out on Hospital Records. A mainstay in the UK grime, bass, and garage scene, Flava D is known for her versatility. Her streamlined, seamless way of blending genres reflects her years of hard work. This album tells the story of where she’s at musically, and although it was born during the pandemic, her tried-and-true method of testing out bangers of all styles on club sound systems has paid off.
This 15-track record is just shy of an hour, but it packs so much into that time. Her carefully curated list of collaborators — coupled with the soulful liquid, emotional vocals and high-energy rollers — showcases Flava D’s diversity and masterful production. It also represents a pivotal moment for her, as she’s releasing her debut on the very label that she cites as an inspiration.
Three years ago, my idea of what an album would’ve been is different to what it is now, because I was starting it in lockdown essentially — and I didn’t have the club testing ground. I could’ve made a liquid album so easily, but it wouldn’t translate into the sets I do today. I don’t think I really have a specific style, but I have characteristics in my tunes — UKG influence is still in there in little ways, definitely with the chords and certain basslines as well.

Opening the album is “Blush,” a collaboration with MPH featuring Paige Eliza‘s vocals. Full of UK garage attitude and Eliza’s melodic, ethereal vocals, this track is the perfect opener. “Can’t Get it Back” combines SOLAH‘s passionate and powerful vocals with Flava D’s liquid, upbeat sound. It’s a real song of summer.
“Entertainer” is already a crowd favorite since its release this past July. This song has Flava D teaming up with labelmate Anaïs and Dread MC. It starts smooth and melodic and then gets straight filthy, with the bass kicking in strong. Instant stank face.
Flava D has shown exactly who she is with this album. In 15 tracks, she tells the story of why she’s here and showcases all the work she’s put into getting to this point.
