New York’s Alan Nieves makes his debut on Ilario Alicante’s record label, Sound D’Elite, with a brand-new EP titled Bareso.
House music DJ and producer Alan Nieves stays true to his New York roots in his new EP, Bareso, using samples from hip-hop icons like Nate Dogg and Bronx duo Terror Squad (Fat Joe and Remy Ma). The three-track project dropped via Italian DJ Ilario Alicante’s label, Sound D’Elite.
Hailing from the East Coast, Alan Nieves is rapidly making a name for himself in the realm of global house music. Since reaching #1 on Beatport’s Tech House Releases chart with his Warehouse Music EP in 2017, the artist has released projects on respected labels like elrow, Deeperfect, Moan, and Desert Hearts. His unique and evolving sound has gained support from heavyweights like The Martinez Brothers, Marco Carola, and Joseph Capriati, in addition to taking him to stages at festivals such as Desert Hearts, Elrow NYC, and The BPM Festival.
Infusing the EP with hip-hop hustle, Alan Nieves kicks things off with the title track, “Bareso,” by implementing samples from Nate Dogg’s 2001 single, “I Got Love.” The Long Beach, California, rapper and singer is known for shaping the genre, and this is one of his West Coast hip-hop staples. This fusion comes as no surprise since hip-hop-infused tracks have long found a home in dance music, especially house. Take artists like Cloonee, CID, and Dennis Cruz, for example; all have seen success in merging the two genres. The song delivers a bold, feel-good vibe, blending Nate Dogg’s chopped vocals with sharp percussion and energetic, rising drops.
Following the opening track, “Bronx Shh Happens” feels like it’s cut from pure New York cloth. It samples Bronx duo Fat Joe and Remy Ma — better known as members of Terror Squad — on their 2004 hit “Lean Back.” Powered by punchy percussion and Fat Joe’s hip-hop vocal cuts, it’s a heads-down banger, serving infectious dancefloor funk with a rap flair built for those sweaty late-night moments in the city. The classic “Lean Back” sample adds an authentic street edge, grounding the track firmly in the borough’s rich hip-hop heritage.
Closing the EP, “Yeah 3x,” highlights Nieves’ progressive side, throwing hard-punching synths over a four-on-the-floor groove, making for a musical journey that’ll take listeners through deep, synthy soundscapes. It delivers a vibe to get down to as the night comes to a wrap, or as the sun starts to peak through. It concludes the EP by showing his range as a producer, DJ, and rising star in the world of house music.
