“Sleepless Nights” sees Dutch superstars Martin Garrix and Armin van Buuren finally collaborate after dominating their respective eras of dance music.
Even for artists as accomplished as Martin Garrix and Armin van Buuren, there’s still uncharted territory left to explore. The two superstar DJs must be acutely aware of that today, as they’ve released their first-ever collaboration, “Sleepless Nights” featuring Libby Whitehouse, via the latter’s Armada Music imprint.
Despite van Buuren’s recent melodic techno leanings, “Sleepless Nights” harks back to his trance sound of old. Rolling kick drums at 138 BPM and a heartstring-tugging breakdown give the single an unmistakable measure of nostalgia, while Garrix’s effervescent EDM synth work makes it relevant in the present day. Tying it all together is Whitehouse’s anthemic vocal. Dynamic and memorable, it gives “Sleepless Nights” the X factor it needs to end up in countless DJ sets throughout the rest of the season.
Martin Garrix (real name Martijn Garritsen) first played his and van Buuren’s collaboration during his closing set on the Ultra Music Festival 2025 mainstage. “We’ve been playing this one for some time now,” Garritsen wrote in an Instagram post earlier this week. “Feels right to finally release it!!”
Around the turn of the millennium, van Buuren became one of the foremost artists associated with the trance genre at a time when its popularity soared to then-insurmountable heights. Garritsen, on the other hand, broke through during the EDM explosion, thanks in no small part to his 2013 hit “Animals.”
