AlphaTheta’s new product, ChordCat, is the perfect device for drawing inspiration, featuring 110,000 chord combinations and hundreds of instruments.

The company behind Pioneer DJ, AlphaTheta, has just released a new groove box called ChordCat. The new compact device is built for sparking ideas and helping generate chords on the fly.

With 110,000 combinations of chords, ChordCat unique feature is its “Chord Cruiser” mode, which helps producers see which chords are right for the music they are making on the device. There are a lot of plugins or other software with similar tools, but this is a unique device as standalone hardware.

This product is designed for everyone from complete beginners to advanced producers. You can explore chord combinations that might be best for house, future bass, techno, or just jam with little effort. Tweaking chord suggestions, assigning favorites, and building progressions.

The 8-track sequencer offers 16 patterns per track with 128 steps, a library of 145 instruments, and 16 different drum kits. Offering many different sounds to choose from. Plus, effects allow for complete expressive control. The device features MIDI in and out, a 3.5mm headphone jack, an audio output to speakers, and a USB-C port. The device runs on power over cable or on six AA batteries. When connected directly to a computer via either USB-C or MIDI out, you can use it directly in DAWs as well.

An arpeggiator, delay, and ducker are the three available effects, with each allowing you to add expression to your ideas, whether that’s adding melodies, space, or dynamics to each track. Additionally, ChordCat offers its own management software, allowing you to bring your ideas into a DAW for final processing.

Since acquiring Pioneer DJ, AlphaTheta has been pushing the boundaries of devices for both DJs and musicians, as well as artists of all kinds. ChordCat looks to be no different, bridging that gap from idea to finished track.

AlphaTheta’s ChordCat is available for $299 MSRP, and you can find a list of retailers and where to buy it online on their website.
