La Torre Ibiza Celebrates Ten-Year Anniversary with ‘Volumen Cinco’

Featuring Nina Simone, Boards of Canada, Mazzy Star, Talk Talk, µ-Ziq, and a Mark Barrott exclusive, La Torre Ibiza unveils its magical fifth volume.

Hostal La Torre is one of the spots on the island of Ibiza that captures the magic of a Balearic sunset in an especially unforgettable manner. Nestled high on the cliffs of Cap Negret, it has become a sacred haven for musical purists seeking sonic journey as day turns to night. To mark a decade of sunsets and soundscapes, La Torre Ibiza returns with Volumen Cinco, the latest edition of its beloved compilation series curated by long-time residents Pete Gooding and Mark Barrott.

Out on CD and double vinyl, the 15-track release is a carefully curated compilation of sounds meant to mirror the progression of an evening at La Torre. From soul-stirring classics to esoteric gems, it’s a sunset soundtrack that speaks to the venue’s history: emotional, expansive, and grounded in the rhythms of the island.

The compilation opens with “Where Were U In 92?” by Burns & Tubbs, setting a nostalgic yet playful tone. µ-Ziq follows with the dreamy “4am,” while Arthur Verocai’s “Caboclo” injects warm, Brazilian soul into the mix. Auntie Flo’s “Green City” and Software’s “Present Voice” explore more meditative territory, with the latter paying tribute to the late José Padilla, a guiding light of the Balearic tradition.

Point Zero’s “Coastal” brings in a touch of the seaside before Nina Simone’s “Come Ye” lifts the energy with a spiritual presence. N.Y. House’n Authority’s “APT. 3B” introduces a classic deep house pulse, which builds toward Mark Barrott’s exclusive unreleased track, “When Devils Become Gods,” composed especially for this release.

Eric Serra’s “Protect Life” adds cinematic tension, which gently gives way to Mazzy Star’s bittersweet “Fade Into You.” Boards of Canada follow with the ethereal “Open The Light,” and Aqua Bassino’s “When The Bird Flies” provides a soulful, jazzy landing zone. An emotional peak arrives with Talk Talk’s “Wealth,” the quietly powerful closing track from their Spirit of Eden album. The compilation ends on “Present” by Yukihiro Takahashi, a soothing cut from the Yellow Magic Orchestra member.

For those who have had the chance to experience the island, Volumen Cinco has an emotional richness that brings listeners into a deeply intimate sunset journey. Software’s quietly powerful tribute to Padilla, Nina Simone’s commanding presence, and Barrott’s own contribution all stand out as moments of vulnerability. More than a compilation, this volume signals La Torre’s evolution into a distinct musical voice that honors Balearic roots while carving its own path.

Purchase Volumen Cinco by La Torre Ibiza in CD or double vinyl format, and look out for more recordings from the legendary brand.
