Jordi Van Achthoven is carving out space for himself in the scene under the They Call Me Steve alias and just announced his forthcoming album, Escapism.

Jordi Van Achthoven has seen significant success as one-half of Tinlicker. Working alongside Micha Heyboer, the duo took the scene by storm over the past decade, winning over the hearts of fans worldwide with their captivating releases and performances that have moved dancefloors. Yet while Van Achthoven received plenty of accolades with the project, there was still an itch for him to scratch creatively. This led to the creation of They Call Me Steve in 2022, and three years later, that project is gaining momentum.

In March, Jordi Van Achthoven’s first official release under the They Call Me Steve alias surfaced, “Whatever You Call It.” Then, a second tune, “Life Has Changed,” surfaced in May. These two tracks, both released on Be Yourself Music, set the tone for the soundscapes that he set out to create under the alias. Now, a third single, “Do You Think About Me,” has been released for fans to feast their ears on.

Press play on “Do You Think About Me” and you’ll find yourself wrapped up in its warm textures within seconds. There’s an undeniable groove on this tune, bolstered by the layers of percussion, funky guitar, and its repeated vocal sample, that you can’t help but bop your head along to. It plays well into the influences that Van Achthoven has openly drawn from, which include soul, IDM, R&B, and more, while twisting in signature, emotion-fueled elements for added effect.

The release of They Call Me Steve’s third single marks the latest glimpse at what’s in store for his debut album, Escapism, which is set for release on September 19. “It’s a personal album, and I was able to incorporate many elements and samples from my daily life into the tracks,” he said about the upcoming album. “You can either blast it at full volume in a club, or use it as background music in your favorite cozy, local coffee corner. As the title suggests, at its core, it’s all about escaping from everyday reality.”
