KARABA blends Afrohouse and aquatic atmosphere to explore themes of identity and change in her latest EP, Tides, out on ONErpm.
Driven by her passion for rhythm and expression, French-Congolese DJ/producer KARABA is making waves in the underground scene with her deep, entrancing Afrohouse sound. As a former professional dancer who has toured with major pop stars like Drake, Camila Cabello, Selena Gomez, and Chris Brown, she brings the same fiery, kinetic instinct and global sensibility to the decks, effortlessly translating movement into music. After years on the road, her production reflects a rich cultural sound drawn from an expansive sonic palette, enabling her to carve out a distinctive style within Afrohouse.
Marking a new chapter in her musical journey, KARABA unveils her latest EP, Tides, out via ONErpm. This conceptual work weaves metaphors of the sea and lush atmospheres into themes of identity, transformation, and change. Throughout the EP, KARABA channels profound introspection and invites the listeners on a fluid journey that mirrors the shifting tides of her creative artistry.
“Into the Sea” opens the EP with the sound of crashing waves, immediately launching the listeners into an ethereal soundscape. This transportive track is washed with percussive textures and hypnotic drum patterns, creating a natural ambiance with an infectious dancefloor groove.
From there, KARABA draws the listeners inward with mystical tones and distant echo vocals in “Sinking.” The syncopated rhythm instills a sense of calmness that ripples throughout the song. Then, “Dark Water” follows up with an expected, darker twist to provide a distinct contrast. With shadows of electronica, the thumping beats create an immersive experience that will make you feel like you’re sinking into an aquatic dream.
Next, “Siren” beckons you deeper into KARABA’s world with a rich blend of Afrohouse grooves and alluring electronic rhythms. She then closes out the EP with “Surfacing,” a track that offers a peaceful moment of clarity and tranquility, like gliding up for air after a deep dive. KARABA said, “After the tension and high energy of the journey, it feels like a moment of rebirth and arrival—floating above the water, chanting, and embracing the calm after the storm. It’s the sense of finally reaching the destination.”
