CHYL swung by to discuss her debut performance at EDC Las Vegas, her latest releases, CHYL Racing, and more!

CHYL has always been one to break the mold. From leaving the world of investment banking on Wall Street to performing on the scene’s biggest stages, her career in dance music has grown exponentially over the past few years, solidifying that she is on the right path. Her evolution is a true testament to chasing your passion at full speed.

She’ll never forget her debut performance at EDC Las Vegas this year. Years of hard work and dedication led up to this very moment, and countless adoring fans packed out cosmicMEADOW to see her play. This speed house connoisseur brought a slew of beloved tracks and new releases to the stage, like dreamy “Make Believe” and genre-bending “Show You What You Love,” delivering a career-defining set full of high-octane energy.

Before CHYL continues to race to the top, we caught up with her to get the lowdown on her EDCLV performance, her clothing line, her first headline tour, and much more. Keep reading for an authentic glimpse into the world of CHYL.

Congratulations on playing EDC Las Vegas! You mentioned playing more of a special, unique set for festivalgoers. Tell us about your performance at cosmicMEADOW.

Thank you so much! EDC was honestly such a dream come true for me. This is my first time playing for so many people on such a huge stage. When I plugged into my USB and played my intro, I stood up and saw the entire stage filled with people, and I honestly could not believe my eyes. I was pretty nervous throughout the whole set (because I’ve never played for that many people before), but towards the end, I got more relaxed and was fully immersed in the performance. I got pretty emotional towards the end, too. I looked back at my manager, Ryan, and just remembered how hard we both worked and how far we’ve come in the last few years. It was truly a life-changing set for me.

You had a post-set meetup as well. What’s the most memorable fan interaction you’ve had?

I had a quick post-set Discord meet-up! These are my day one fans, and I recognize a lot of them and know a lot of them by their names. I’m so thankful for their support, and seeing them at such a pivotal moment in my career meant the world. My favorite moment was awarding two of my fans a medal for coming to my set more than ten times!

You just wrapped up your first headline tour. Any stops on the tour that were your favorite, and any learning experiences you discovered from this major milestone?

Every stop was special in its own way. The energy was unreal in every city, and even when I was exhausted from back-to-back shows, the fans always lifted me back up. Two shows that stood out were Portland and Toronto. Portland was wild… the Portland JDM squad pulled up and lined their cars outside the venue. The cops came, and they loved it. It looked like a scene from Fast and Furious or Initial D. That moment where car culture met rave culture was so powerful and surreal.

We’re really digging your latest release, “Make Believe.” It’s dreamy and emotion-fueled yet still packs a speed house punch. What was your process like for creating this one?

Thank you! I really appreciate that. I made “Make Believe” as a follow-up to “Pretty Race Girl”—it’s girly, melodic, and high-energy. I wanted to make something for the girls who love EDM. It’s 150 BPM, with a bouncy speed house drop and my signature donk sound, layered with vocal chops and more boosted bass harmonics. I spent a lot of time getting the mix clean and rhythmic. For the second drop, I experimented with trance elements to give it that dreamy, euphoric lift that matched the vocal perfectly.

You just released a different type of track for you, “Show You What You Love,” out now on Ophelia Records, featuring a melodic bass drop that stands apart from your other releases.  Do you plan to explore other genres or infuse genres like this into more releases?

Yes, to be honest, I do get bored making the same genre over and over, so I love experimenting—whether it’s melodic bass, hardstyle, or something else entirely. Exploring other genres helps me grow as a producer and keeps things fresh. I do lean on friends for feedback when I step outside my usual sound, just to make sure it’s dialed in. “Show You What You Love” was really fun to make, and I’m definitely planning to keep adding unexpected elements and genre twists in future tracks.

We’re absolutely in love with the RESURGENCE merch collab with CHYL Racing. Do you solely design your own merch and plan the photo shoots, or how do you bring everything to life?

Thank you so much! The Resurgence drop was absolutely insane, and it went crazy on sale. Jaff, the founder of Resurgence, led the design and production for that collab, so I took more of a backseat. For my personal line, CHYL Racing, it’s a mix—I design a lot of the jerseys myself, and I also work with a designer. I’m obsessed with streetwear and racing aesthetics, so CHYL Racing is where those two passions meet. I’d love to see it grow into a full standalone brand one day.

In the spirit of going fast and being a pretty race girl, what is your dream car you’d love to own or race?

Definitely a GTR R35 with liberty walk body kit!

Four years ago, you left working in investment banking on Wall Street, and now you have a buzzing career in the dance music scene. If you could go back in time and tell yourself anything when you were just kicking things into gear as a producer and performer, what advice would you give yourself?

I’d tell myself to stop doubting and start trusting my vision. Don’t overthink it, and don’t let other people’s opinions derail your gut instincts. If you believe in what you’re building, go all in.
