Pendulum take a turn for the hyphy in “Save The Cat,” a drum and bass cut from their upcoming album, Inertia.
A new Pendulum album is on the way. On August 22, the trio currently comprised of Gareth McGrillen, Rob Swire, and Peredur ap Gwynedd will release a 16-song effort titled Inertia. In the meantime, they have offered up a single titled “Save The Cat” to give fans an idea of what to expect from the full package.
“Save The Cat” may best be described as drum and bass, but it doesn’t play by the rules of any single genre. Counterbalancing its syncopated beat is a savage topline, not to be outdone by hard dance-reminiscent kick drums and distorted guitar licks. This is no run-of-the-mill dance track. It’s a statement all its own comprised of several different music styles.
Inertia will mark Pendulum’s first album in 15 years as the group have only released singles and EPs since their 2010 studio-length effort, Immersion. The group famously went on hiatus in 2012, at which point McGrillen and Swire focused on their Knife Party electro house project. Pendulum reunited in kind with a performance at the 2016 edition of Ultra Music Festival in Miami.
For their upcoming release, Pendulum have tapped an eclectic assortment of high-profile musicians. UK band Bullet for My Valentine, Uk rapper Scarlxrd, American band AWOLNATION, and drum and bass mainstays Hybrid Minds are among the collaborators who helped contribute to the album.
