Oliverse’s latest EP, Illusions, powerfully demonstrates his versatility and innovativeness as a producer in the bass music realm.
UK-based DJ and producer Oliverse‘s simultaneously melodic yet heavy sound design has made him a long-respected force in the bass community. Since breaking onto the scene in 2015, his discography—which spans many genres from brostep and melodic dubstep to drum and bass and even house—has landed him on massive labels like UKF, Disciple, and Never Say Die.
While Oliverse has consistently released singles throughout his career, he is back with his latest EP in three years, Illusions, which is out now via Monstercat.
The four-track EP opens with “Wake Up” featuring ILLAMAN, a heavy dubstep song accompanied by gritty vocals. This tune deviates from Oliverse’s signature sound and is more on par with the intense and explosive dubstep widely popular in the scene today. While an unexpected introduction to his new EP, “Wake Up” showcases his versatility as a producer and ability to explore different subgenres of bass music while still creating something that sounds unique and entirely like him.
Meanwhile, the rest of the EP is more reminiscent of Oliverse’s lauded style. “Rendezvous” with GILLIAD and Nina Sung and “Avalanche” with Bertie Scott are classic dancefloor DnB bangers with melodious vocals, and atmospheric breakbeats and basslines. On the other hand, “Close to me” leans into Oliverse’s recognizable melodic meets heavy aesthetic.
Oliverse has continued to evolve as a producer and consistently delivers tracks that are fresh, exciting, and stand out in the current dubstep landscape. Illusions is a testament to this and is bound to excite ravers who listen from home or hear its songs played out across stages this summer.
