DMVU Makes Time Stand Still on 'Porcelain Pillows'

It’s hard to put DMVU‘s music in a confined box of one clear definition because, to be quite honest, his music is full of vast lifetimes. When you press play on a new track from this diverse artist, you never know what you’ll get. Dubstep? A sincere lullaby? No matter the avenue he chooses, though, you know when you press play, your new favorite song has just begun.

If you’ve been along for DMVU’s journey over the years, it’s obvious his music causes a greater shift than the average Joe’s. A prime example is in 2021 when he released Praise Be Delusion or, The Ripple, which received plenty of praise from fans and tastemakers alike. Now, after patiently waiting for new sounds, DMVU presents his latest EP, Porcelain Pillows, out now via Philos Records.

Listeners dive right into this elegantly created masterpiece and are met with the velvety sounds of “Fangs.” Angelic pixilated flutters dance around you, almost as if they were enticing you right into the jaws of the track’s lyrical and beat switch-up. Sounds of being in love shine through on “Me n U.” If music could be a smile, it would be this track.

Another ballad to joy, “Nothing But,” enters the room with a shine worth trying to keep in a jar. Enjoy the mesmerizing melody as many instruments take you back to a moment worth remembering. The title track starts the second half of the release with a more playful energy. You can’t help but want to skip merrily to the beat as the song plays out, but don’t get too comfortable because this track explores more than one feeling.

Say goodbye to “Yesterday’s Blues” as the next track throws you into an old-time animation cartoon with each note moving you further along your vivid journey. The journey ends with “Crucifix.” This tune brings listeners through avenues less traveled on this EP with broody energy, met with vocals and ad-libs that deserve a standing ovation.
