Kindrid channeled his emotions while battling depression to create stunning soundscapes on his debut studio album, Inertia of Solitude.
Houston-based DJ and producer Kindrid isn’t your typical electronic music producer. His roots in classical music and passion for a range of styles, from electro house to progressive, have led to compositions that are filled with depth. This was heard prominently in Kindrid’s stunning EP Singularity, as well as tracks that have found a home on labels including mau5trap, Emercive, and more over the years.
More recently, Kindrid has burst out on his own with self-releases, and the latest to arrive is his debut album, Inertia of Solitude. This 14-track album isn’t just a collection of tunes slapped together at random; it’s a deeply personal body of work that was created as an outlet for the emotions that he experienced while fighting depression and coming out on top on the other side.
“The album is a guided journey of descending slowly, sliding, falling into a deep depression,” Kindrid shared. “An almost seamless progression through the stages of grief in a work about the crumbling of the “I’m fine” facade, and a celebration of the ascent on the other side. It is my raw and personal story of creating this album; a journey of denial, acceptance, and healing.”

This story is ultimately about the breakdown before the breakthrough, and the time spent in that feeling of stillness. And, the realization that the illusion, the facade we present – crumbles. Only in that destruction can we heal, move on, transform, accept, give grace. It’s the journey that defines and heals us.
Press play on Inertia of Solitude, and you’ll find yourself swept away on a journey into the depths of Kindrid’s mind. “Inertia” begins the ride with synths, pounding drums, and heavy, oscillating elements that create an ominous atmosphere. The warped nature of the closing seconds doubles as your own mind warping in a depressive state, especially when you feel added “Pressure.” This track with Viktoria Liv is a stunner, with her vocals placed perfectly over the breakbeat that keeps it chugging forward.
Kindrid flips the script just a tad on “Drifting Dawn,” teaming up with Makay for a tune littered with distorted vocals, guitar chords, and a shuffling beat that all work together to create an intoxicating soundscape. “Last to Go” with Ash Nova arrives as one of the album’s biggest standouts with an electro house meets progressive-styled ride full of beautiful melodies and chord progressions that you can’t help but fall in love with.
The next few tunes show off the pure dynamism Kindrid brings with his productions. “Wrong Reasons” with KELIZA is a bumping electro-y tune that you can quickly imagine dancing to at a mainstage, “Vindicta” with AURAL UMBRA offers a gritty midtempo atmosphere that will leave you gasping for air, and “Astral Solitude” with Syberlilly sees classical and heavier bass collide.
The bounciness of “Infrared Dreams” with Jam2go helps pull listeners out of the grimey depressive mindset, while “Deathblossom” opens the door to an expansive realm of percussion and other tasty elements. Kindrid wasn’t done quite yet either, as the finishing blow arrives with “No Pressure.” This one brings Viktoria Liv back in for her third appearance, and it’s just as stunning as the first with its larger-than-life atmosphere, sultry vocals, and another dose of electro house grooves carrying you to a better state of mind.
