Baby Weight Supports Transgender Day of Visibility with ‘Being Trans’ EP

Baby Weight speaks up once again to prove that trans voices will never be silenced with her latest release, Being Trans.

With a raw and unapologetic approach, Baby Weight combines music and veracity to create art that challenges societal norms and celebrates the complexity of the LGBTQ+ experience. Through a deeply personal and universally resonant lens, Baby Weight’s art offers a space for vulnerability, empowerment, and self-discovery, inviting audiences to reconsider how we perceive gender, beauty, and authenticity.

In a world where standing up for what is right is more crucial than ever, Baby Weight reminds us that the LGBTQ+ community needs our support now more than ever. The time for silence has long passed, and her latest EP, Being Trans, serves as the perfect call to action, offering a poignant segue into how we can all contribute to supporting the trans community.

This two-track EP creates a safe space through its powerful sound waves and offers a way for listeners to make an actual difference. A portion of each purchase of the EP on Bandcamp will be donated to The Trevor Project, the leading suicide and crisis intervention non-profit for LGBTQ+ youth. This allows fans to step forward and support the LGBTQ+ community.

In commemoration of Transgender Day of Visibility, I am releasing these tracks which have been sitting on my hard drive for years. It is more important now than ever not only to celebrate trans joy, but to make our voices heard as those in power work tirelessly to silence us.

Trans Lives Matter

Baby Weight

We step into a space of timidness as the beat of “The Heart or the Head?” gently draws us in, like entering a room where all eyes are on us. You take a cautious step forward, the spotlight blinding you, until you pause, realizing you are the moment, not the burden. As the kick drums surge, they push your shoulders up, provoking you to walk confidently, reminding you the world is better with you in it.

Get ready for a revolution as “Being Trans” speaks truth with samples from Abigail Thorn‘s speech “Coming Out as Trans: A Little Public Statement.” Anyone besides a cis white male can connect to this track as Abigal’s words ring out about how feminism, “Isn’t a girl boss brunch with femme-sperational CEOs, it’s our common struggle to be free.” More inspiration comes forward as she sheds light on our reality over a pop-y house beat, providing the perfect space for courage, hope, and unity. Reminding everyone in our trans community that being trans is a gift!

At EDM Identity, we take pride in being a safe space for everyone within the dance music scene. Let Being Trans serve as a reminder to treat everyone with respect and love, as these are the values on which our community’s foundation was built. Dance music would never have come to fruition if it weren’t for our Black and LGBTQ+ community, and it is through love, inclusivity, and acceptance that the scene has flourished. Let’s continue to honor that legacy by embracing the same principles today.

Listen to Being Trans exclusively on Bandcamp and purchase the tracks to help prove the voices of our LGBTQ+ community will be heard and valued!
