“Eight Miles High Alone,” the first single from Marconi Union’s new album, captures the emotional complexities of the human experience.
Over the past two years, influential ambient duo Marconi Union have faced their share of creative struggles. With many moments of uncertainty that led them to briefly question the project’s future, members Jamie Crossley and Duncan Meadows have found their way through the toughest times to emerge stronger than ever.
Renowned for their mastery in creating experimental music with rich, cinematic swirls, Marconi Union’s timeless collaboration with the British Academy of Sound, “Weightless,” is widely recognized for its ability to reduce stress. After a period of hiatus, the Manchester-based duo are now gearing up to celebrate their growth and evolution with their twelfth studio album, The Fear of Never Landing, set to land via Just Music on June 6.
“We’ve always made atmospheric music but we had started to lose that aspect. Other than some rough ideas, we had no sense of what we were doing anymore, a kind of musical wilderness. Eventually a couple of things fell into place, and it was like, ‘Ah, okay.‘ We tried out a few new tracks live which gave us the opportunity to see what worked and what didn’t. We’ve never given ourselves that luxury before.

Featuring nine gorgeous tunes, the new album offers a sense of hope amidst all the undercurrents of doubt that run through the world. As the title suggests, there’s an undeniable layer of anxiety that is woven into the theme — but each track will invite the listeners on a journey of introspection and enlightenment. Through intricate layers of lush loops and dreamy synths, Marconi Union showcase their unique ability to weave complex emotions and experiences into a wordless exploration.
Alongside the album announcement, Marconi Union have dropped the first single, “Eight Miles High Alone,” to give listeners a preview of what’s to come in the new record. Accompanied by a music video that takes the viewers on a mesmerizing journey, the track is a cinematic masterpiece that brings the band’s combined production prowess to light.

From start to finish, the steady and hypnotic pulse creates a feeling of floating in solitude, mirroring the album’s theme of deep reflection and emotional depth.
