On his latest EP, My Pure Soul, Khen digs deep into his emotions and shares a heartfelt tribute to his late father.
From a young age, Israeli DJ and producer Khen was drawn to dance music’s vibrant rhythms and captivating energy. His brother, who became his mentor in electronic music, guided him to hone his craft and discover his distinct artistic voice. Over the years, Khen has cultivated a musical identity that blends contemporary techno house beats and early 2000s progressive elements, making his mark on many esteemed labels like Sudbeat, Lost & Found, Vivrant, and Bedrock. As he continues to solidify his place in a new era within Tel Aviv‘s evolving electronic music scene, Khen heads to All Day I Dream this time to make his label debut with the sentimental three-track EP, My Pure Soul.
My Pure Soul is a deeply personal tribute to his late father that bridges the past and present to take the listeners on an introspective journey that bridges the past and present. While the loss of his dad left a void that he didn’t quite know how to fill, one thing was for sure, he could pour his grief and emotions into his music. He used this as an outlet to navigate through the process, capturing the delicate balance of vulnerability and strength that comes with the healing journey.
“This past year has been challenging for me.” Khen shared. “I usually don’t share much about my personal life, I just express it through my music. This tune I wrote to my father, Yosef, My Pure Soul. You were always turning the party on, and will always be with me in every moment. I miss you, Aba.”
The title track opens the EP with mesmerizing melodies and pulsating grooves. Khen works his way to the peak by building layers of depth and emotion within the lush synth work. He guides listeners on an emotive sonic journey from start to finish for more than seven minutes before “Lyup” kicks in as the next track. Drizzled with thumping bass stabs and steamy vocal chops, this song oscillates between comforting recollections of the past and inkings of the future. Closing off, “Uchi Mata” offers a mixture of melodic and a slightly heavy techno elements, serving as a testament to Kehn’s boundary pushing sound design.
