After releasing her latest single, “OFF THE FLOOR,” MARISOL swung by to discuss the next chapter of her music career.
MARISOL is a relatively new artist to the dance music scene. She officially began her career in 2021 with her debut single, “Hawaii,” and has been working on her craft ever since. However, longtime fans know that she isn’t someone who randomly burst on the scene. For over a decade, MARISOL has hosted a popular lifestyle YouTube channel, MyLifeasEva, in addition to finding success in the modeling industry.
With nearly half of her life being under the public eye, MARISOL still finds ways to surprise fans and showcase new skills as she continues developing her music career. At the end of 2023, she stopped actively releasing music to reflect on what her project truly meant to her. During this time away, she rekindled her love for dance music and uncovered a new passion for the underground and club scene.
Now, MARISOL has a refreshed outlook on the future and is proud to present the next era of her career with the release of her brand-new track, “OFF THE FLOOR.” This record is influenced by the current wave of dance music that opts for faster tempos and darker elements like eerie melodies and punchy kicks. Equipped with MARISOL’s infectious vocals backed by a bouncy atmosphere, this track is guaranteed to dominate the club circuit and late-night afterparties everywhere.
MARISOL has a lot of plans and content in store for her legion of fans this year. Looking to gain more insight into this new chapter, she sat down with us at EDM Identity to reflect on her career, dive deep into “OFF THE FLOOR,” discuss the twists and turns that led her to music production, and so much more. Congratulations on the release of “OFF THE FLOOR!” As your first single since 2023, what can you share about this new record and what it means to your career as a musician?
“OFF THE FLOOR” is the first single to introduce everyone to the new world of MARISOL. I spent an entire year-plus prepping this project behind the scenes and teasing a few tracks on Instagram stories. Now, it’s all officially happening! This is crazy!
I’ve been on an internal quest to reach a point in my music career where the records I put out feel like who I am at my core, what I like, and what I crave. I’m proud of myself for pushing through the inevitable growing pains of being an artist and reaching this point in my music career. Now, the world gets to finally hear it!
You gave your fans a completely new sound that goes darker and faster on this record. What inspired you to make this switch when your sound was much different before?
I feel like every artist can relate to going through that initial journey of “finding your sound.” When I first learned how to produce, I was trying to throw every skill I had into every song I made. I was like, “let’s layer high hats!,” and I would throw seven synth melodies into every drop. I would get excited when I’d make something that sounded like the music people liked.
I think I was trying to prove to myself that I knew all these technical skills, but I wanted to grow out of that. After meeting some good friends who are also producers from the UK, I decided to spend all of 2024 diving into the club scene and playing more shows over in Brooklyn and Switzerland. I honestly learned more by listening to music and playing with friends than I did sitting at home obtaining more producing skills.
MARISOL feels a lot darker and faster now because I got all the over-producing out of my system. The current club and underground scene has also brought me back to my roots of being a 14-year-old scene kid, loving the underground electro and screamo music of that era. I feel at home in that space, so I’m excited to show people how my new music aligns with who I was when I first fell in love with electronic music!

This release is also accompanied by an official music video shot with Olav Stubberud. What were the conversations and situations like when working together to bring your creative vision to life on camera?
I’m an independent artist in basically everything I do, and Olav is the most talented person behind a camera I’ve ever met. I’m really lucky to have this absolute legend to collaborate with (and also live life with). We have a lot of fun creating together. Olav is Norwegian and he’s introduced me to a lot of the culture and country.
Last summer on my birthday, we went to this rave in the forest in Norway. Anyone who knows me knows that this was the best combination ever since I love dark forests and I love techno! Dancing until dawn in a forest with fog, frogs, and slugs everywhere — I don’t think I’ve ever felt more at peace.
This experience inspired me to bring that energy to the “OFF THE FLOOR” music video. It’s raw and all about the fog and the dancing. I like how there’s little distraction in this whole music project. To me, taking techno out of the confines of a club and into the open air feels like it makes sense.
As previously mentioned, you hadn’t released any music in over a year. What made right now the perfect time to return and introduce your new sound and style?
The best part about making music is the community you make it with. I was always home alone, producing in my bedroom, yearning for a group of people who just wanted to create. Creating by yourself is a lonely process.
In 2023, a lot of talented friends came into my life who would constantly be spitting fire advice like they were musical gurus. I’d be in the studio with these massive names and at first, I would think, “I have to make something immediately.” Then I allowed myself to just listen. I put Ableton down and learned real-world advice.
For months, I didn’t finish a single song. I allowed myself to have some space, breathe, and discover that what I cared about making was so invaluable. I’m so glad I did that. Now, this new music project is entirely me. It’s what I’ve always been on a quest to create — something cinematic, dark, hard, and emotional but danceable and shareable.
With the release of “OFF THE FLOOR,” many fans are wondering what’s next with this new genre you’re making. Do you have any plans for an album or EP featuring this faster side of you? If so, what else can you share with us about it?
I can’t say much, but you don’t have to wait long for the tea! There’s a lot of music in the vault and a lot of visuals.

Speaking of your new sound, how do you plan on translating it into your live performances moving forward?
I’ve been pretty authentic with my sound and the world I’m building at MARISOL sets. You can expect to be at or over 140 BPM for most of the time. There’s also a story happening. It’s emotion-inducing, pulsating, and sexy. You’ll be dancing but also feel like you’re in a foreign drama film.
I want MARISOL sets to feel like you’re unlocking a darker side of yourself that you might have tucked away. I can always feel the vibe of the room shift when I’m playing. It gets sexier, even though it’s faster. With the new MARISOL music, it’s going to further the story and provide more context.
Fans also know that you aren’t just a music producer as you also manage a successful YouTube channel and modeling career. How did these creative avenues eventually lead you to also creating music?
Music was always a massive passion for me growing up. I didn’t grow up in a musical family, but I was a contemporary dancer most of my life. I was always crate-digging so I could be the cool kid at dance class with the most niche and movable sounds that no one knew. I’ve been utterly obsessed with music for as long as I can remember!
I was a freshman in college when my YouTube channel took off. For years, there was simply no time for anything other than college and YouTube. When I hit 10 million subscribers, I had this epiphany where I was like, “I don’t think I care about gaining more followers. I have a community that knows me, and I know them. I want to do something for myself right now.” That something was music.
Since 2020, I’ve been combining social media and music, trying to take all of my followers on the journey with me. They know how hard I’ve worked to get to where I am with my music. They know I didn’t simply hire a ghost producer to make a quick viral song. I love to do this at my core, and I’m so lucky to share it with people who support me like family.
Finally, what advice can you give to other women who are looking to break into any of the creative industries you’ve been a part of, whether it’s YouTube, modeling, music production, or more?
To any woman looking to get into music or any creative industry, be confident! You deserve to be here in this space. Even if you are just starting, reach out to artists you love. Send a message to other producers or collaborators and start forming friendships. Go do a music session with your distant friend from high school that makes hip hop, even if you make deep house. It’s those experiences that drive you further on your journey.
Build an environment around you that fosters creativity, playing around, learning, and experimenting. It’s all up to you to build that community around you, but it’s invaluable. Also, don’t be afraid to reach out for help. I bugged the sh*t out of my friends asking them for help with DJing and Ableton. Now I’m the girl with an open door giving DJ lessons to any friend who wants to come over and try. There is space for everyone in the creative world. You got this!
