Barry Can’t Swim revealed that his forthcoming studio album, Loner, is due out on July 11 and dropped a euphoric single, “Different.”
Hailing from Edinburgh in the UK, Barry Can’t Swim stands apart as a visionary artist carving out a unique sound that is both refreshing and entirely one of a kind. From his standout EP, Amor Fati, to the explosive club cut “Kimbara,” the talented star has been breathing new life into the electronic music world with productions that draw upon genres from Afrobeat to house and jazz. As he continues to shape each project with an unwavering creative vision, Barry Can’t Swim has announced the arrival of his upcoming album, Loner, due for release on July 11 via Ninja Tune.
While his debut album, Where Will We Land, was inspired by external influences, Loner resulted from an introspective exploration of his own emotions. He hopes to offer the listeners an intimate and heartfelt expression of who he is as an artist.
In an Instagram post announcing the new record, Barry Can’t Swim wrote, “If my first album was a collage of all the music I loved and was inspired by growing up, then this album is the most authentic expression I could offer of myself and my life over the past year. I feel immensely privileged to get to make music for a living, and to be allowed the breathing space to just focus my attention fully on writing an album. It really is a dream.”
To give the fans a preview of what to expect in the album, Barry Can’t Swim unveiled a new single, “Different.” The track has earned its place as a crowd favorite as its hard-hitting and distorted drums instill thumping dancefloor energy on the drop.
This comes less than a week after Barry Can’t Swim delivered the surprise opening track “The Person You’d Like To Be,” featuring layered dialogues centered around punchy drum programming and distorted voices.
Coming up, Barry Cant Swim is gearing up to bring his highly anticipated performances to major cities across North America including stops in Boston, Toronto, San Francisco, Los Angeles and a special three-night performance in New York City. In addition, he will be joined by a talented roster of guest artists such as Anish Kumar, Beewack, Paula Tape, Laurence Guy, and Chaos in the CBD, who will each add their own distinct flavor to the show.
