Ravenscoon Displays Artistic Growth on ‘Glass Orchid’

Ravenscoon has busted open the doors to the next era of his career with his latest bass-fueled album, Glass Orchid.

Ravenscoon has been a name that’s circulated often in the bass music scene over the past five years. He began to take hold of a growing fanbase during the pandemic, winning over those who were yearning for quality dubstep tunes and dynamic sets, and he hasn’t looked back since. In recent years, Ravenscoon has delivered his debut album, Periphery, and embarked on lengthy tours. Now, he’s dropped off another gem in the form of Glass Orchid.

Glass Orchid‘s roots are firmly planted in the days following the release of Ravenscoon’s debut album. That project, which took a year and a half to create, along with its conjoined tour, had tapped much of the creativity and, according to him, “absolutely kicked my ass.” During those dark days, Ravenscoon decided to channel his thoughts and emotions into studio sessions, leading to the first two tunes produced for the album and, inevitably, many more.

“This album represents a shift in my project—combining fun, playful, energetic bangers with longing, haunting wave tunes,” Ravenscoon shared on Instagram. “It’s a yin and yang album that shows my versatility as a producer and songwriter and my ever-changing style.” True to what he said, there are various soundscapes across its 11 tracks, ranging from nostalgic tunes with a modern twist to vocal-driven ones that give you moments of introspection.

“BANG” with Flozone leads the charge on Glass Orchid, and its booming nature makes for the perfect introduction to the madness that will ensue. Tracks like “DJJJJJJJJJJ,” “CHECKMATE,” “FUSE” with MLOTIK, and “BAD BOY” deliver plenty of heaviness throughout the ride, with aggressive drops, haunting elements, and warbled basslines littered throughout.

The two tunes Ravenscoon created first, “GLASS ORCHID” with Kambii and “BLACK & BLUE” with Jessy Covets, are smack dab in the middle of the album. Both feature deep, distorted, growling bass, but the show’s stars here are the vocals that play so perfectly within each soundscape.

To close out his sophomore album, Ravenscoon dropped two remixes and a remaster to help deliver the finishing blow. His take on Dream Signal’s “Don’t You” and iSorin’s “Dark Winter” both bring a brooding atmosphere along with them as he warps the mind during their runtimes. Meanwhile, the warbled elements and vocals throughout the 2024 remaster of “MIND” leave listeners on a high note.
