Fatboy Slim Says He’s Lost His “Passion for Making Music,” Won’t Release New Albums

Fatboy Slim hasn’t released an album in 20 years. If a recent interview is any indication, he may never again.

Fatboy Slim has stood the test of time as a DJ, touring the globe to perform sets that continue to earn him new fans nearly three decades after he adopted his famous moniker. The UK talent hasn’t kept that same energy as a recording artist, though — and his recent remarks suggest that won’t change anytime soon.

In a conversation with The Sun coinciding with his recent performance in Somerset, Fatboy Slim (real name Norman Cook) admitted to not feeling driven to create original music. “The thing is, you can’t make music unless you’re absolutely passionate about it and it drives you from the moment you wake up in the morning,” he said. “I just don’t seem to feel like that anymore. I feel like that about DJing and about putting on things like this, but I’ve kind of lost my passion for making music.”

Cook’s last studio-length album was Palookaville, which came out in 2004. That’s not to say he’s eschewed the recording industry in the years since. He has released successful singles like “Eat, Sleep, Rave, Repeat” in 2013 and “Where U Iz” in 2017. Earlier in 2024, he delivered “Role Model” featuring Dan Diamond and “Bus Stop Please” with Daniel Steinberg.

“My last two singles just came out of a live show,” Cook explained. “They were both things that I made just to play on the side. I had tunes that nobody else had in my set. And that kind of caught on with people when we worked out that we could clear the samples and release them.”

Nearly a year ago, Cook announced an EP titled Best Of Remixes that included a rendition of “Eat, Sleep, Rave, Repeat” by Bruno Martini.
