Nvrsoft swung by to tell us about her passion for drum and bass, her forthcoming album Milennial Jazz, and more before dropping off a completely original mix that will take your breath away.
While much of the drum and bass scene has been dominated by jump-up and other energetic styles in recent years, the buttery-smooth sounds found in the liquid side of the spectrum are a delight that can be enjoyed anytime. Kat Dudinsky, known professionally as Nvrsoft, is at the forefront of embracing every side of the genre, and she’s been winning over hearts in Washington DC and beyond.
Nvrsoft has turned heads over the past few years with releases on labels ranging from Wiggo Records and YANA Music to The Gradient Perspective and Grand Theft Audio Recordings. During this time, she became the first female drum and bass artist from the US to grace the decks at London’s fabric. That same night, she was formally signed to UK-based label AudioPorn Records after catching the ear of its label head, Shimon, during the show. That label has since become home to many of her releases, such as “Changes,” “Don’t Wait For Me,” “The Call,” “Atonement,” and more recently, “Like It” with Sofia.
While others might be getting ready for the holiday season ahead, Nvrsoft is preparing for the release of his upcoming album, Millenial Jazz, and one of her biggest shows yet. Millenial Jazz, which is due out in 2025, will see her honor her old-school roots and dig into her signature sound. “When I began on AudioPorn, Shim felt like my liquid tunes were my best work,” Nvrsoft said. “So, I wanted to return to my liquid and make tunes with friends and loved ones from my home. I wanted to make something classic and timeless and maybe give you a twist somewhere along the way.”
This weekend Nvrsoft will take over the decks at Jungle Bells in Atlanta, and on January 11, she will make her way to Washington DC’s Howard Theatre to perform at Una In Perpetuum. This concert features a blend of musical artists from a range of genres, all under the direction of Andre Leonard, a world-class pianist, composer, and conductor. There, Nvrsoft will take the stage to perform a live orchestral set with Leonard, who helped co-create her Millenial Jazz album.
“I can’t tell you how thrilled I am to be a part of Andre’s project,” Nvrsoft told EDM Identity. “Andre is one of my best friends on earth and is such a muse in my life. He’s one of the most impressive classical music artists in America, and when he invited me to be a part of this show, I was so thrilled. It’s something we’ve dreamed of doing for years.”
Reflecting on the performance ahead, Nvrsoft looked back to Camo & Krooked’s iconic set with Red Bull Symphonic as inspiration. “I remember picking their brains about it in hopes I’d do something similar in the future,” she said. “It’s finally here now, and I’m so excited for that… This is really something I’ve dreamed of for ages.”
The drum and bass explosion in North America doesn’t seem to be simmering anytime soon, and to Nvrsoft, a self-proclaimed “dreamer,” the future is even brighter. “I think it’s going to be a vehicle for cross-genre work,” she shared. “I think DnB has this incredible way of connecting so many different kinds of music, inside and outside of electronic music. I think we’ll see many things we haven’t seen before in music happening in the future, and I think DnB will power a lot of that.”
When asked about other artists in the drum and bass realm that she’s been into lately, Nvrsoft mentioned Richter, Trinity, Latte, Interrex, DJ Silver, ANTC-1, Dysfunction, Trimer, Benny L, streetflicker, Viperactive, Raiser, High Contrast, and MEL. That’s just scratching the surface for her, though. “[There are] so many people who are pushing incredible tunes, and I just love all of it,” she said in closing.
Before she headed off, Nvrsoft whipped up an exclusive, all-original mix featuring the soundscapes found on Millenial Jazz, along with others for Benny V’s Dance Concept, Kayak, and DNB Girls. Give it a spin, and stay tuned for more from this fast-rising artist in the drum and bass realm.
