W&W returned to Pure Nightclub in Sunnyvale, California, where they displayed their dominance as leaders of mainstage dance music.
Dutch duo W&W have dominated dance music for nearly 20 years. From early beginnings in trance music to helping write the blueprint for festival mainstage-ready bangers, the duo consistently find ways to remain at the top of the music industry. They first found their footing by earning spots on labels like Armada Music, while they found commercial success through viral hits like “Bigfoot” and “Rocket” later in their careers.
Today, the duo experiment with sounds all across dance music — big room, hard dance, and more — to deliver big festival sounds on stages worldwide. Recently, W&W returned to the United States as a part of a mini North American tour. While ravers were getting ready for major events like Escape Halloween, I had my eye on a rare, intimate club performance from W&W in Sunnyvale, California.
Even after a hectic month with back-to-back events including the inaugural Worlds Away festival and Rooler‘s US debut shows in Southern California, I knew I couldn’t miss W&W’s epic return to a small venue tucked away in Silicon Valley. I was extremely tired as the previous weekends were filled with long journeys, including an eight-hour drive for the Rooler show. I still hopped in the car and drove up to Pure Nightclub for what was sure to be a great performance.
Pure Nightclub is a dance music-heavy venue in Silicon Valley with mesmerizing production, lasers, banging speakers, and an energetic atmosphere. The night started with local DJs who set the tone with singalong dance remixes and big room hits from the EDM boom era. It felt generic at times, but it fit nicely knowing that W&W was coming shortly.
When W&W finally took the stage, the energy in the room shifted as a casual Halloween party turned into a big room rave. This was my first time seeing W&W despite them being on my bucket list for years, and it was exactly what I imagined in the best way possible. W&W brought festival mainstage energy to an intimate club, making it feel like I was in the middle of a Tomorrowland crowd. They went through their greatest hits like “Rave After Rave,” “Arcade,” “Bigfoot,” and more.
Throughout the rest of the set, they delivered tons of Rave Culture music like their latest remix of “Danza Kuduro,” records from label mates AXMO, and a sprinkle of NWYR. Although the set was just as I anticipated, W&W still left me craving for more of their music.
It’s usually a gamble to see artists I’ve followed since my early days in dance music as they often change their music, performances, and craft. Luckily, W&W seems to be an anomaly in dance music, evolving while managing to maintain their true spirit no matter the genre.
W&W is set to return to the States in December for shows in New York City and Countdown NYE, so make sure to snag some tickets on their official website!
