What So Not Gets Personal, Announces “First Proper US Tour in Years”

What So Not peeled back the curtain on the struggles that birthed the “new music, new sounds, new approaches” that fans can expect on his MOTIONS tour.

You’re not crazy for feeling like you haven’t heard much from What So Not as of late. The Australian DJ and producer apparently had to scrap an entire album and event concept in 2022 — but his new one, MOTIONS, will see him make a long-awaited return to the US.

What So Not (real name Christopher John Emerson) opened up about the personal struggles that took the wind out of his proverbial sails in recent years on Instagram. He shared that 2022 was “one of the harder years” of his life as he had worked on an album and corresponding stage show for three years, only to end up pulling the plug on the entire project.

“Unfortunately, everything fell apart,” Emerson wrote. “Compounding delays, the final result wasn’t 20% of what it should have been & it was heart wrenching.”

At the same time, Emerson said, he was suffering from a back injury that prevented him from touring or even producing music efficiently. On top of these setbacks, he also lost ten years worth of files when the laptop he used for work got corrupted.

Emerson eventually picked up the pieces and started formulating a plan for a new album and tour concept. His newly announced MOTIONS tour — which shares its name with his August sophomore album — arose from him asking himself, “What can I do to help my industry?”

“This tour is as much about you as it is about me,” Emerson explained. “MOTIONS ideology is the interwoven fabric interacting between us all so each stop, I’m going to give back to you every way I can.” In addition to intimate pop-ups and meet-and-greets, that includes Emerson sourcing supporting arts from local fan suggestions.

What So Not has yet to announce any of the stops on his MOTIONS tour. Sign up to receive updates by commenting on his announcement post.
