Lane 8 just revealed the details surrounding his forthcoming album, Childish, which will be released on September 27 via This Never Happened.

This year has seen Lane 8 continue on his path of bringing magical melodic moments to the masses. He’s delivered sensational sets at a handful of festivals and This Never Happened Summer Gatherings and stunning soundscapes on his seasonal mixtape series. Still, aside from “Remission” with Kasablanca, it’s been fairly quiet on the release front. That’s set to change on September 27, when Lane 8 drops his newly-announced album, Childish, on This Never Happened.

In a post on Instagram, Lane 8 provided plenty of color on the story behind his approach to Childish. The album is rooted in the joy and confidence he’s seen in his children over the past few years as he let them be creative. This led to a reflection on his past and how a keyboard and a drum machine, his two most treasured possessions growing up, helped his mental well-being, pride, and worth. It also shaped him to become who he is today.

“Thinking about all of this made me realize that my own approach to art has changed a lot over the years,” Lane 8 shared. “When you make a living off your art, people need to like what you make for the whole thing to work, a pressure to please others starts to creep into the creative process, whether you want it to or not.” This spawned a feeling of liberation and motivation inside of him, and the tracks found on Childish are the result of that creative push.

With a determination to explore a more childish side of my creativity, this album slowly came together. I tried to think as little as possible about end results, and instead focus only on finding joy in the moment, and chasing that feeling for as long as I could.

None of the tracks set to arrive on Childish have been released as of today, but one glance at the tracklist bears some surprises that will surely draw in Lane 8’s fans. Four fresh solo tunes will be paired with collaborative tracks that bring Art School Girlfriend, Arctic Lake, Tailor, Kasablanca, and Sultan + Shepard into the mix, building excitement for what’s to come later this month. And true to the nature of Childish, Lane 8’s daughter Heidi is the mind behind the album artwork.

Stay tuned for the release of Childish on September 27. Pre-save or pre-order the album on your preferred platform ahead of its release.
