Sakkura Releases Debut Drum & Bass Album ‘ASTRAL’

UK-based drum and bass artist Sakkura puts her collaborative spirit on full display with the release of her debut album, ASTRAL, on Athera Records.

If there’s been one theme that’s permeated much of the electronic music scene over the years, it’s been self-discovery. Artists from around the planet have embarked on journeys to do just that, with creativity and artistic growth being the result for many. Sakkura is one of those artists.

This Brighton-based DJ and producer has made a name for herself in the drum and bass scene over the past few years, and her latest project—her debut album, Astral—shouldn’t be slept on. Sakkura’s passion for the genre is fully displayed throughout its ten tracks, but if you dive a bit deeper, you’ll find plenty more to explore, from her collaborative spirit to cathartic moments as she found her strength of self.

The eclectic vibe across the album is really important to me and represents my sound as Sakkura. When I was trying to find a home for the tracks I was making that would ultimately launch my new career, the idea of them being split up and released separately by different labels was soul-destroying. The vision was that everything needed to be released together, so I knew I had to do it myself.

Sakkura

Each collaborative tune is exceptional. Sakkura teamed up with others such as Miss Melody, Riva, and Hoodz multiple times, while others like Dee Freer, Project Takeover, Ten-K, Mavrik, and RV joined in on the fun. These feel seamless while listening, which makes sense, considering that Sakkura teams up with three previously mentioned artists (Miss Melody, Riva, and Dee Freer) for her Sakkura Live project.

Standouts on ASTRAL include “Bad Girl,” which kicks off the album with style as Riva and Miss Melody add their power to the track. “So Free” also arrives as an early tune that should be marked with its punchy breakbeat and uplifting vocals guiding the way. “Purity,” “Taking Me Higher,” and “Human Storage” also stick out with their dynamic qualities, making them ripe for repeat listens. The sole solo track on ASTRAL, “Peep Show,” features a push and pull of energy versus atmospheric nature, while “Bristol Beats” brings the album to a fantastic close.

Listen to ASTRAL on Spotify or your preferred platform, and stay tuned for more from Sakkura by following her on social media.
