The Porter Robinson website now features a polygonal web game meant to promote his upcoming album, SMILE! :D, and its supporting tour.
Porter Robinson‘s aesthetic extends beyond music. It’s a vibe that instantly registers no matter the medium. The Chapel Hill, North Carolina DJ and producer has proven as much by uploading an online game to his website.
No downloads are necessary to play the web game, which exudes the quirky, weeby essence of Robinson’s brand. Click on the polygonal device that appears front and center on his homepage, and you’re whisked away to a city on its surface where you make a cartoon depiction of Robinson topple buildings with the click of your mouse.
Robinson’s game includes a number of different settings for players who search well enough to find them. Among them are side quests in which you pet a cat, use a cat as a gun in a carnival-style target practice game, and topple more buildings.
Active Theory is responsible for the “mixed-bag web experience,” as they call it. The brand specializes in AR experiences and a variety of other visual design services.
The game is meant to coincide with the release of Robinson’s upcoming album, SMILE! :D, which is set for release tomorrow, July 26. Featuring pop-leaning cuts like “Cheerleader,” which trickled out ahead of the full drop back in March, the effort will be supported with a world tour that will see Robinson touch down in cities throughout the Americas, Australia, Asia and Europe.
Play Porter Robinson’s SMILE! :D web game on his official website, and pre-order the album ahead of its full release via Linkfire.
