Floating Points has dropped the details for his new album, Cascade, and released the latest single from the project, “Key103.”
Floating Points is a true artist whose creativity seemingly knows no bounds. From his genre-defying style and fantastic performances to creating his first ballet score, Mere Mortals, he’s continued to impress and rack up accolades along the way. But while his recent focus might’ve been outside the electronic music realm, the draw of hot, sweaty dancefloor-focused experiences flooded his mind. This year, Floating Points will again expose everyone to that magic with his forthcoming album, Cascade.
Cascade isn’t just Floating Points’s new album; it’s a continuation of the dancefloor style he displayed in his 2019 album, Crush, which he was unable to bring to the masses on tour due to the pandemic. It’s also a love letter to his roots growing up in The UK, where he first found a passion for electronic music.
“I’m just constantly chasing challenges,” Floating Points shared about the album and how it fits within his creative projects. “I always want to keep things moving and go all in on things that excite me. Whether that’s working with a 100-piece orchestra on a ballet or on a laptop on my own.”
Officially due out on September 13 via Ninja Tune, the album is set to feature nine tracks from the depths of his mind, filled to the brim with gorgeous rhythms and glitched-out melodies. Tracks on Cascade, like the latest single to surface, “Key103,” pay homage to his experience in Manchester, as it’s titled after an underground radio station he used to listen to “religiously.”
Floating Points has treated fans to two other tracks that will be found on Cascade: “Birth4000” and “Del Oro.” His 2022 single “Vocoder” will also find a home on this release, with a club mix to kick everything off. Additionally, to add even more depth, he’s worked with Akiko Nakayama for colorful visual art with fluid imagery that can be seen on the album’s cover and its official videos.
