Longtime San Diego nightlife venue Bang Bang announced that it will be closing the doors to its current location and is setting its sights on somewhere new.
San Diego’s house and techno scene has flourished over the past decade as both genres began to take hold of a growing number of dance music lovers. An instrumental venue to that growth was Bang Bang San Diego, a hybrid sushi restaurant and nightlife space that has hosted well over a thousand DJs from all over the world and a giant disco ball. First featuring shows curated by FNGRS CRSSD, the venue changed hands in the midst of the pandemic to its new owner, Florida-based Pyramid Events.
Bang Bang San Diego re-opened in 2021 with upgraded production, a renewed menu, and more to the delight of those who yearned to get back on the dancefloor. The venue has brought forth weekly shows ever since, showcasing artists like Arnold & Lane, Mz Worthy, Nils Hoffmann, Felix Da Housecat, Harvard Bass, OMNOM, and more along the way. Pyramid Events also opened a second location, Bang Bang Tempe, along the way. But today, they’ve announced on Instagram that the original San Diego location will be closing its doors.
The current venue, which sits up a flight of stairs at 526 Market St., will be permanently closed at the end of June, but that doesn’t mean Bang Bang is disappearing from the San Diego market. In their post, their team teased that they’re cooking up something new at a new location in America’s Finest City. “We will miss this space but excited to welcome you into our new one,” they shared in the post.
Those who want to get their fix of beats at Bang Bang before the current venue’s doors close for a final time can do so all month long. This weekend will see Pleasurekraft and Lauren Lane take the stage on Friday and Saturday, while Saffron Stone and Fallon will take control of the decks next weekend. ESTA’s too fast tour is the final show that will take place on June 29.
Stay tuned for more details about Bang Bang San Diego’s new location. Tickets for the final shows are available now via their website.
