Darren Tate flexes his creative muscle and proves he’s one of the best in the business with his latest album to land on Anjunabeats, Metamorphosis.
Darren Tate’s reputation in the scene is one that precedes itself. For over two decades, he’s been at the forefront of chart-topping hits, released tunes under multiple aliases like DT8 Project, scored full-length movies, and more. Recent years have seen return to Anjunabeats, where he teamed up with Above & Beyond on the soundtrack for The Last Glaciers and worked with Jono Grant to bring JODA to life. But it was time for Darren Tate to strike a chord with a solo release and the result is Metamorphosis.
Metamorphosis is a testament to the creativity and brilliance that Darren Tate has brought to the electronic music scene over the course of his career. Found inside are eleven tracks, all carefully crafted with gorgeous melodies, entrancing vocals, and uplifting moments that will carry you straight to the heavens.
“5AM To Lima” begins the journey, offering a sweeping soundscape that’s filled with hi-hats, organic percussion, and a soul-cleansing ambiance that carries you forward into the rest of the album. Two powerfully stunning tunes arrive soon after, “Flashing Lights” and “A Long Way From Home.” The former of the two sees Darren Tate team up with Sxcha for an emotionally stirring ride that marries its swelling bassline with perfectly placed vocals. The latter, which brings Solarstone and Julie Scott into the mix, blends blissful strings, soothing vocals, and a punchy breakbeat with just the right amount of energy to keep a proper pace.
“Adrift,” “One Last Chance,” and the album’s “Interlude” all land next, each one showing the attention to detail that Darren Tate has become renowned for. As the seconds tick by on these three tunes, you’ll find yourself completely captivated by the synths and passionate lyrics in these larger-than-life sonic realms while the urge to dance swells greater.
Susie Ledge makes an appearance on two of the next three tunes, and her performance is fantastic on both. “Watching” has a deep groove that wraps around your mind, while “Kaleidoscope” starts slow but builds into a vibrant tune that smashes orchestral and electronic elements together for a mesmerizing trip. In the middle of these two is “Gone,” which features Robyn Sherwell and injects plenty of energy that you can’t help but gobble up and ask for a second helping of.
Closing out this ride from Darren Tate are two more solo gems, “Crazy” and “War.” The fast-paced nature of “Crazy” fits the name as this peak-hour tune only takes a few seconds to kick into full gear before taking listeners on a roller coaster ride filled with banging synth work. On the flip side, “War” offers a refreshing breakbeat, piano melody, strings, and vocals that will keep you grooving until the early hours of the morning. It’s a beautiful end to the Metamorphosis journey.
