New York City was bursting with underground energy last weekend as Kolter made his debut and Dennis Cruz performed for two nights.
New York City is known as one of the most diverse music cities in the US, and its underground house scene is no different. This past weekend, I was fortunate to experience this firsthand during Kolter‘s NYC debut and his first US tour, as well as two back-to-back shows from Dennis Cruz. As a big fan of both artists, I was excited to check out two new venues.
Kolter was concluding his debut US tour with stops in cities like Miami and Los Angeles. Meanwhile, Dennis Cruz had two consecutive shows with Teksupport, including a headlining performance on Saturday night and a four-hour set on Sunday evening. The supporting lineup for Dennis Cruz featured Space Miami resident Ms. Mada, and Chasewest, who went back-to-back with Beltran and Mink. While I have attended other Teksupport events in the past, their 99 Scott venue and SILO Brooklyn were new to me.
Both Kolter and Dennis Cruz have been busy lately. Kolter recently released his That Was Fresh EP on Chris Stussy‘s label, showcasing his dynamic range. On the other hand, Dennis Cruz has maintained an extremely busy tour schedule this year, performing solo, having various b2b sets, and touring with his duo, GOLFOS, alongside PAWSA.
Kolter set the tone while Dennis Cruz closed out the perfect weekend.
The weekend began with Kolter’s set at the 600-person capacity venue, SILO. Local NYC residents Stixx and Nick Rodrigues warmed the floor excellently for the headliner. The venue’s unique layout, with the DJ booth on the dance floor, created an intimate setting, enhancing the connection between the DJ and the crowd. Kolter’s three-hour set was a great mix of originals, edits, and his favorite tracks. When he dropped his “Bananas” edit, the crowd went wild with excitement. Additionally, I appreciated the team at SILO, with their reasonable drink prices and smooth operations, making it my new favorite venue in NYC.
After taking a day off, I headed to 99 Scott for Mink b2b Chasewest and Dennis Cruz.
Although I missed the Saturday show, Sunday’s lineup did not disappoint. Mink, a longtime NYC promoter and TekSupport resident, alongside Chasewest, a rising deep tech talent in the US, set the afternoon’s tone perfectly. Chasewest’s catalog of edits was something I had been wanting to see for a while, and it exceeded my expectations.
Dennis Cruz took the stage in the early evening, delivering a compelling four-hour set that transitioned from sunset into night.
I enjoy it when an artist plays nothing I recognize, but everything keeps the energy high. I naively tried to identify tracks using Shazam but sadly had no luck. The venue, an old warehouse across the street from SILO, provided a cozy and intimate atmosphere for an artist of his caliber. Teksupport managed the event well, ensuring it wasn’t oversold and that there was plenty of room to dance inside and outdoors.
New York City consistently delivers unique and memorable experiences; this past weekend was no exception.
I had a fantastic time at both shows. For anyone exploring NYC’s vibrant underground scene, SILO is an essential stop, and I highly recommend any event hosted by Teksupport. Whether the night features house or techno, TekSupport consistently presents unique artists and experiences that stand out in the U.S. scene. Without a doubt, these parties and venues are among my favorites across America.
