After canceling the festival due to a potential storm threat, the organizers of Texas Eclipse have responded with a plan to compensate attendees.
On paper, Texas Eclipse at Reveille Peak Ranch in Burnet appeared to be the best place to party and witness one of the great wonders of the universe. The festival boasted nine stages, hundreds of programs and workshops to participate in, night sky drone shows, and plenty more for the reported 40,000 who attended from countries worldwide.
Unfortunately, Mother Nature had other plans.
Just before the moon was set to cross in front of the sun on April 8, the festival was called off due to projected severe weather that would hit the area with thunderstorms, high winds, hail, and more. Its organizer, Disco Presents — owned by James “Disco” Donnie Estopinal — conducted a safe, organized exit of the festival grounds and campsites after totality. He and his team then began to explore refunds for attendees the following day.
After reviewing supplier costs and an insurance consultation, partial refunds based on the number of days, excluding taxes, fees, and shipping, have been determined. Those who purchased four-day GA and VIP passes will receive a 25% refund of the ticket’s face value, while anyone with three-day or two-day passes will receive a 33% or 50% refund, respectively. In addition, camping upgrades and add-ons will receive a 25% refund off face value, excluding taxes and fees.
All refunds will be made automatically to original purchasers. The full refund policy can be viewed in detail on the Texas Eclipse website.
The cancellation was just one of many problems that Texas Eclipse faced, which included alleged disputes between artists and organizers, a broken water pipe and malfunctioning showers, and the untimely death of an attendee. The community may take a while to heal from the frustration, but a partial refund is a step forward in this otherwise complex journey.
