Player Dave Provides Relief on ‘Nowhere to Sleep’

Brooke Nelson by Brooke Nelson

in Album Review

Player Dave nurtures his audience with the gorgeous, soothing soundscapes found on his latest EP, Nowhere to Sleep.

Player Dave has perfected ambient works of art, creating a much-needed escape from reality for his followers. Within his worlds, listeners can experience colors as a feeling rather than a visual. His sounds are hopeful and full of promise; one could say his music represents a painter’s pastel palette ready to paint the perfect sunset.

With the world in high tension, music like Player Dave’s gives listeners a moment to breathe and let loose. Not only does he like to provide grounding moments, but this artist isn’t afraid to get unchained behind the decks. His live sets have left an impression on crowds at Daisy Chain events and festivals like Coachella, to name a few.

He is back to show his softer side on his latest EP, Nowhere to Sleep. This five-track release offers a sigh of relief that is more than deserved. Replenish your dopamine as you press play on “Circling” with its pleasant array of gentle drum arrangements and distant vocals that are mesmerizing. A light, airy beat arrives on “Yu,” providing enough energy for your feet to shuffle as you glide forward with the vocals beckoning you to a dreamlike state of mind. “Come Home” will leave you yearning for your lost love to be back by your side, even if just for the night, as Niles, Ty Fontaine, and Ilykimchi join the fun.

Butterflies fill your stomach as “Something About Yu” enters the fray while singing sweet nothings over a tender musical ballad. Anyone who has experienced sharing one gaze as you’re embraced by another will feel that same energy during this track. The title track brings listeners to an endpoint. If you close your eyes, it’s easy to visualize what echoes might look like bouncing off water puddles when this song plays.
