The tease of Porter Robinson’s third album left fans nervous about the future after he scrubbed his account, but according to him, “it’s done.”
On Thursday, Porter Robinson released a cryptic social-media video that left fans both excited and anxious. The video, which is an essay that takes place in 2028, details why Porter Robinson deleted all his music from streaming platforms and removed his online presence on March 1, 2024. The video’s final seconds showed the words “it’s done” and a quick flash of “porterrobinson.com,” which, if you were to visit the website, you were met with a countdown that ended at 12pm ET.
It appeared that the countdown initially glitched, as fans posted images that contained a broken file icon when they visited the website. The homepage was later updated around 12:20pm EST. Now, the mystery has been unveiled, as Porter Robinson announced that his third album is complete. No official release date or tracklist has been revealed for this album as of publishing, but he seemed to give everyone a taste of what’s to come in a video on Instagram and TikTok.
While Porter Robinson has gone through different genre iterations throughout his career, with recent DJ sets have seen him expand beyond his usual sonic offerings to include heavier hard dance tracks, it appears he is once again incorporating Japanese and anime music into his next project. Today’s news comes in light of the upcoming 10th anniversary of his far-away fantasy debut album Worlds.
At the time of writing, fans can still access the producer’s music on stream platforms, like Spotify and Apple Music, but his Instagram has been cleared out, except for his new album-announcement post and the aforementioned video.
