Michael Hooker opens up about his recent charity event for HopeKids, how you can get involved, and what comes next for Re:Sound Music!
Phoenix-based DJ/producer and Re:Sound Music founder, Michael Hooker, set out on a mission to make the world a better place. Recently, he linked up with HopeKids, a non-profit focusing on restoring hope to children with life-threatening illnesses. They extend a helping hand to affected families and communities through unique events and activities, like Harmony – An Open Air Party With A Purpose.
Hosted by Re:Sound Music, Harmony took over the Thundercat Lounge in Phoenix, AZ, this past January. A talented cast of characters delivered the beats, including melodic marvel HoodyHoo, Gavin, and Lainez, an afro-house aficionado. Michael Hooker topped off the lineup, and together, they raised $1,883.12 for the cause, setting the precedent for future events.
As plans for the next event are brewing, we dove back in time to tap Michael Hooker about what brought him to the charity in the first place. He revealed, “Last summer, at one of our Re:Sound Music pool parties, I was introduced to Jason Begalke. We chatted for a while, and he mentioned that he was a board member for the Arizona Chapter of HopeKids.” With his curiosity piqued, “I asked him to tell me more about the charity, and after hearing about everything they do, I knew I wanted to be involved.“
Michael Hooker’s heart was in the right place, and his crew packed the dancefloor, leaving him yearning to keep the momentum going. Instead of circling back to just a regular day at the office, he worked to become an official HopeKids volunteer! “I’ve gone through all of the background and security checks and completed the training videos,” Michael noted. “This means I’ll be able to help out on family days/outings. I’m fortunate to have the time, and I’m happy to assist whenever I’m needed.”
This is an inspirational story, and you may ask yourself how to get involved. Michael offered direction, “It’s not just donations. Having volunteers who give their time is also important for a charity to thrive.” HopeKids is always searching for loving individuals to greet and check-in families at events, hand out tickets, serve refreshments and food, host virtual events, or serve on the fundraising and planning committees. Simply fill out the application, and a volunteer coordinator will contact you.
It doesn’t have to stop here. HopeKids is just one of many organizations making a difference. “Find a charity you align with, then contact them to start a conversation. Explain why you want to help and go from there,” Michael suggested. One thing we do know is that the electronic dance music community will always step up to the plate.
So, what’s next for the passionate producer and his body-moving brand? You can expect new tunes and parties galore! The Re:Sound Music & Friends event series will be top on the list. Michael detailed, “Our Melinda’s Alley parties are always the day before a major holiday. The next one is on Sunday, February 18. Then, in April, we’re heading back to Hotel Adeline for the summer season.” He went on to note, “We’ll also be hosting some other sporadic label parties.”
As for Michael Hooker specifically, “I have some DJ dates lined up in the USA, Mexico, and Europe, and I’ll be releasing more music.” And we’ll be patiently waiting!
