Ivy Lab lays out an impressive spread of sounds on Mild Snake, highlighting their strength in musical diversity even further.

A new year means a new assortment of musical genius is in store from Ivy Lab. Already flaunting that they can make pretty much any genre they please, the duo have proven there are zero restrictions when it comes to their creations. Ivy Lab’s versatility is one of the many reasons they are so loved by many. Who doesn’t love artists that can keep you guessing?

The pair already started the year off strong with a chill drum and bass mix on BBC Radio that provides an elevation of dopamine the moment the music begins. Here to keep that rush going, they return to Sneaker Social Club for their first EP of 2024, Mild Snake. Ivy Lab are no stranger to genre-hopping, and this EP lays out five more examples of just how multifaceted they truly can be.

Brush your shoulders off and get ready to dance your heart out as “Kik Bak” makes its presence known. There are enough kick drums and breaks to provide the perfect layout for listeners to release pent-up energy through movement. “Look Away” follows with a bouncy beat that has caused a ruckus in the airwaves since its early release.

Fall into a disoriented space as “Monsoon” rolls out sounds that evoke mental imagery of strobe lights illuminating a room full of fog. You stagger forward, uncertain what direction you’re wandering. You then get redirected by “N.V.T 01” to a space with eccentric yet pressing frequencies that swirl you as your brain tries to decipher what your ears are hearing.

We end the journey with the title track, whose switch-ups throughout are sure to keep you interested. The more laid-back energy of “Mild Snake” is the perfect way to unwind your mind after all of the genres you just explored.
