Movement Detroit returns to Hart Plaza in the Motor City from May 25 – 27.
Movement Detroit is a bonafide mecca for house and techno lovers around the world. This year, the Detroit gathering takes place from May 25-27 on the riverside Hart Plaza, and those planning to go can now lock in their passes ahead of the event.
They don’t even need to pay the full price up front to do so. Three-day GA tickets to Movement can be reserved with a deposit of $50 of the $289 total — $55 of the $399 total for VIP. From experience I can attest that VIP is worth the extra $110 as it allows access to interconnected areas throughout the venue in addition to other amenities. Movement’s three-step payment plan ends on January 31 and the second payment will be due on February 16.
Movement was originally called Detroit Electronic Music Festival and inaugurated in the year 2000. Early on, its programming heavily emphasized Detroit electronic musicians such as Kenny Larkin, Eddie Fowlkes, and Stacey Pullen. The event endured a tumultuous era that saw a revolving door of owners, during which time it experimented with new brand names like Focus Detroit Electronic Music Festival and Fuse-In Detroit.
Detroit promoter Paxahau took the reins in 2006 and arguably carried the event brand to its success in the modern day. Over the course of Movement’s history, artists like Jeff Mills, Ellen Allien, Kraftwerk, Carl Cox, Kevin Saunderson, Octo Octa, and Adam Beyer have performed at the event. Hip-hop also gets some love on the lineups courtesy of billings like RZA and Three Six Mafia.
At the time of writing, Paxahau has yet to announce any headliners on the Movement Detroit lineup. The 2023 event included acts like Robert Hood, DJ Minx, Skrillex, John Summit, Bonobo, and Green Velvet.
