LUMI Releases Debut EP on Octopus Recordings

Grant Gilmore by Grant Gilmore
January 17, 2024
in New Releases

The two-track Look The Other Way EP is the first taste of what’s to come from rising artist LUMI as she opens a new chapter in her career.

Finnish DJ and producer LUMI might be one of the newer names in the realms of house, techno, and indie dance, but she’s already begun to win over the hearts of dance music lovers. While her true home lies in Helsinki, those in the US have been graced with her presence after she made a home in Seattle, which has become quite the hotspot for forward-thinking artists over the past few years.

The powerful nature of her sets has hypnotized those who have caught LUMI take the stage, especially over the past few months. Not only has this self-described Scandinavian Alien put her immense curation skills on display to make crowds move, but she’s also begun to receive nods from industry greats like Tiga and Sian, the head of Octopus Recordings.

Although her mixes have been sublime, one thing that was missing to help propel LUMI to even greater heights were some releases under her belt. That’s all changed in 2024, as in the first month of the year, she graced Octopus Recordings with her debut EP, Look The Other Way.

LUMI clearly channeled the driving, dancefloor-ready nature found in her sets when crafting the two tracks on this release. The title track opens with a dark bassline and spacey blips before the vocals kick in and wrap around your mind like a boa constrictor taking control of its next meal. “The Unknown” changes up the pace just a tad, filling the soundscape with avant-garde elements that will leave you captivated while the sultry vocals are placed front and center over the beat that’s perfect for peak hours in the club.
