Avision is one of the hottest artists in the New York techno scene and just dropped a new track with Xander, but what’s in his tour bag?

New York is bursting at the seams with quality house and techno artists, but one who has continually stood out is Avision. This DJ and producer has solidified his place in the scene after releasing countless gems on labels, including Drumcode, Ellum, Suara, and Factory 93 Records, among others, while also taking the stage at nightclubs and festivals near and far. As 2023 draws to a close, Avision had another tune up his sleeve to gift to the world, but this time, it comes with a bit of a twist.

Out now on the newly relaunched MATTER+ Recordings, “Whatever” is the latest single to arrive from Avision, and it sees him collaborate with fellow New Yorker Xander. But the story behind this track didn’t begin recently; it’s actually been five years in the making. That was when Xander sent the first draft to Avision, and from there, it’s been quite a ride as they passed it back and forth to add more elements to its mix. The result? Three unique cuts spanning house, techno, and breaks, all of which showcase the boundary-pushing style Avision is bringing to the scene.

The hard-hitting Heavy Cut delivers a dose of industrial percussion that is perfect for the peak hour of a rave. Meanwhile, the 7am Mix flips the script with a house-fueled soundscape that will have you grooving along with it in no time at all. And to put a bow on the collection, the Breaks Mix stirs nostalgia with some warped vocals and electro-twinged beats that are sure to make your body move.

While Avision’s most recent track might be called “Whatever,” he sure isn’t throwing “whatever” in his bag when he sets off on tour. We asked him what he brings along with him aside from his trusty USBs and headphones, and he answered our call. So listen to his new tune with Xander on Spotify or your preferred streaming service, and read on for the must-have items that Avision brings with him while on the road.

Avision’s Five Tour Bag Essentials

Macbook Pro Laptop

I carry a 13-inch Macbook Pro M2 Chip (2022) model. This has all my music on it and is specifically my DJ laptop. Having a 13-inch laptop makes it easy to sort music on the plane, and is super small to fit into most bags. This is my number one touring essential.

Anker Phone Battery Charger

I recently purchased a battery backup for my iPhone from Anker; it is AMAZING. It’s super small and fully charges your phone. Without a doubt, it has become essential for me, especially on these long flights or car rides to the hotel/venue. We can’t do much without our phones these days, so I always make sure mine is charged.

Beats Powerbeats Pro Wireless Earbuds

A must-have when I travel, I usually have these headphones in my ears from the minute I enter the airport so I can take calls, listen to music, sort my music, and simply not have to rummage through my pocket to answer my phone. The Beats Powerbeats Pro also sync up perfectly to my laptop, which makes it simple to go through my playlists on the plane. The noise cancelation on them isn’t too shabby, either. They definitely make things a bit more convenient during all of the travel.

Go Neck Pillow

Whenever I have a flight longer than an hour, I have to bring my Go Neck Pillow. Being on a plane isn’t the best for your body, and at the beginning of my touring days, my neck would always hurt until I bought this neck pillow.  It’s super light and can attach or fit to most bags. It is a huge help, especially when you’re trying to get some rest on the plane heading to a show.

Quest Nutrition – Chocolate Chip Cookie

This is one of my biggest must-haves, I always hate eating airplane/airport food. I try to maintain a healthier diet, and a lot of the time that’s hard with some of the circumstances. Before I leave, I always make sure I have a few Quest Protein Cookies with me just in case I end up in a delay or simply don’t have much time to eat before a show. They are pretty filling and always seem to do the trick for when I’m starving.
