Of the bunch, only Fred Again.. and Gorillaz earned nominations outside of the GRAMMY Awards’ dance/electronic categories.

The GRAMMY Awards has announced its 2024 nominees, highlighting a handful electronic music artists among them. Joining mainstream titans like Taylor Swift, Ice Spice, Lana Del Rey and Foo Fighters are producers like Fred Again.., Disclosure, Gorillaz, Kx5, Skrillex, and The Chemical Brothers.

Included in the Best Dance/Electronic Recording category are challenging cuts like Aphex Twin‘s “Blackbox Life Recorder 21F” and Skrillex, Fred Again.. and Flowdan‘s “Rumble.” It also included poppier numbers like “Loading” by James Blake, “Strong” by Romy and Fred Again.., and “Higher Than Ever Before” by Disclosure.

Skrillex appears again in the Best Dance/Electronic Album category for his album Quest for Fire. Ditto for Actual Life (January 1 – September 9 2022) by Fred Again as well as James Blake’s Playing Robots Into Heaven. Also nominated in the category are Kx5 (Kaskade and deadmau5) for their self-titled effort and For That Beautiful Feeling by The Chemical Brothers.

Only two electronic musicians have been nominated for the 2024 GRAMMY Awards outside of the dance/electronic categories. Fred Again.. is being considered for Best New Artist, bringing his total number of nominations to four. Gorillaz, meanwhile, have received a nomination in the category of Best Alternative Music Album for Cracker Island.

The GRAMMY Awards, originally called the Gramophone Awards, have a history extending all the way back to the ’50s. Hosted by the The Recording Academy annually, the ceremony added dance/electronic categories in 2005. In 2012, Skrillex was not only nominated for, but won, three GRAMMYs. Other DJ and producer recipients over the years include Kraftwerk, Justice, Flume, and Black Coffee.

Also nominated in the 2024 GRAMMY Awards are Jelly Roll, Gracie Abrams, and Noah Kahan for Best New Artist; Paramore and Greta Van Fleet for Best Rock Album; Ed Sheeran, Olivia Rodrigo, and Miley Cyrus for Best Pop Vocal Album; and Doja Cat, Lil Uzi Vert, Drake and 21 Savage for Best Rap Song.
