capshun Enters New Era With New EP, ‘ETHOS’

in Album Review

capshun is ready to shed his skin and step into his new self, and he’s bringing forth his ETHOS EP as part of this new era.

Artists who can harness the kind of talent that capshun holds while remaining deeply humble and true to themselves are few and far between. He’s one artist full of surprises, like a gift that keeps on giving. From the days of finding the best underground artists on SoundCloud, capshun has been easily capturing his core fanbase with a versatile production that evokes emotions and ranges from trap and future bass to hip-hop and more.

Since then, capshun has made his name well-known in the electronic music scene, with releases on imprints including Jadu Dala, Sable Valley, bitbird, and Deadbeats. The diversity in his releases and labels shows that his range knows no bounds. Capshun has also received support from dance music giants, including What So Not, The Chainsmokers, San Holo, and Zeds Dead, cementing him as an artist not to be underestimated. Now, after a year filled with single releases, capshun brings forth a full five-track EP named ETHOS.

For me ‘Ethos’ is my creative exploration in the sounds of the culture that I like listening to and making right now. The word ethos is defined as ‘the distinguishing character, sentiment, moral nature, or guiding beliefs of a person, group, or institution.’ So I took time to listen and have my ear down to the music and culture of the electronic scene and implement those into my own sound.

capshun takes listeners out of this realm with his creations, and ETHOS is just another prime example.

capshun wastes no time on ETHOS, diving in with “BREATHLESS” featuring Tyraz. The track blends elements of future bass and trap with vocals that beg the question of solitude or insanity, with lyrics like “Am I crazy? Don’t wanna talk to no one but myself, even if it hurts sometimes.” He then kicks the EP up a notch, with a faster, higher energy in “CARTEL,” ending with the breath of fresh air that we needed.

The third track, “LUNA,” stands tall and will surely blow listeners out of the water, with ethereal vocals that just awaken something in you, translating effortlessly into your body movement. “ON BLAST” then takes the lead with the classic electric energy of true electronic trap music. We’d be losing it to this one over a live sound system through the electric guitar solo finale. ETHOS then comes to a close with “PROTOCOL,” a mind-blowing track that reimagines trap with warped synths, organic sounds, and drums that will make the bassheads lose their minds.

The new EP from capshun comes like a breath of fresh air, something some might forget to appreciate sometimes, but also something we could always use more of. This brilliant artist set out to explore the lengths to which his sound could grow and transform, and he did just that with ETHOS. Morphing his signature sound with modern influences and his developed take on electronic music, he continues to surpass our expectations. We look forward to seeing what he does next as we listen to this release on repeat.
