Acclaimed artist Romy releases “Loveher,” the first track from her upcoming debut solo album Mid Air that’s due out in September!

You may know Romy as one third of the iconic group The XX alongside Oliver Sim and Jamie XX or her track with Fred again.., “Strong,” but she has also been working on music of her own. Having already played festivals like Glastonbury, Coachella, and III Points as a solo artist Romy has steadily ushered in this new era of her career and recently announced additional details about her upcoming, debut album Mid Air.

In an Instagram post, Romy divulges details about the upcoming release, providing insight into its creation and the message behind it. “Mid Air is a collection of songs celebrating love, navigating loss and exploring identity,” she said. “It’s musically inspired by dance music, it’s is a love letter to the queer clubs I first went to when I was growing up and people I met there and the music I heard that has made me feel more alive and less alone.”

While the aforementioned “Strong” will appear on Mid Air, Romy also revealed the album’s next single, “Loveher,” in addition to the album art and rest of the tracklist. “Loveher” was produced alongside newly forged friend and collaborator Fred Again.. and sees Romy explore and reflect on the intimate beginnings of her relationship and what it was like to navigate those early experiences while celebrating each other’s individuality. The track exudes pure vulnerability and draws you in with its raw lyricism and dance-forward arrangement.

“Loveher” begins with a heartbeat kick drum before being joined by Romy’s air vocals and emotional strikes of the piano. As the song begins to swell and other percussive elements join the accompaniment the dance-forward elements emerge. While building and communicating powerful emotion, “Loveher” is simultaneously an honest release of expression, giving listeners an intimate look into Romy’s life and what’s to come with her debut album.

Check out the music video for “Loveher” on YouTube, pre-save Mid Air ahead of its release on September 8, and stay tuned for more to come from Romy in the coming months!
