AFROJACK is a master of making big moves at the start of festival season, and he’s doing that this year at Tomorrowland Winter and Ultra Miami.
Festival season is here, and while dance music lovers might be getting prepped to go on trips to catch their favorite artists, those same artists are working out their own plans to win over the hearts and minds of attendees when they take the stage. This means that they’re delivering some of their freshest tunes, unearthing gems to play in their sets from those on their labels, and also getting physically and mentally fit for grueling touring schedules – and few have excelled at this over the years quite like AFROJACK.
The past two decades have seen AFROJACK fully embrace festival season as his time to shine the brightest as he’s grown to become one of the biggest forces to be reckoned with in the scene. Although he might be a frequent face on the mainstage now, it took him years to get to that point, and part of the growth to where he is today is due to his dedication to making crowds move to the beat, the release of some massive anthems, and his infectious smile, of course.
One of the most important aspects of AFROJACK’s success during festival season is starting everything off on the right foot. This includes getting prepped for some massive shows ahead, which in his case are Tomorrowland Winter and Ultra Music Festival in Miami, while also releasing some tunes to get everyone hyped for what’s to come from their sets.
While AFROJACK kicked off the year with the release of his collaboration with longtime friend R3HAB, “Shockwave,” he waited until early March to deliver something else that was new. On March 3, he dropped off the long-awaited track “Education” under his Kapuchon alias to entice fans and get them in a proper groove. But that wasn’t all that he had in store as he teamed up with Black V Neck for “Oral Music,” that’s due to drop on March 24 – and he has another track up his sleeve for the end of the month with another big name in the scene that’s under wraps and will act as a little dessert from him post-Miami Music Week.
Releasing tunes ahead of and during Miami Music Week is vastly important to AFROJACK, as the entire world is tuned in for the festivities. “I always tell young artists, if you have a great record but no one hears it, how can they know it’s great? That’s why it’s always important to release music during this time,” he said.
This mentality dripped into artists on his label, WALL Recordings, which saw Chasner and Sven Fields drop a remix of his iconic track “Polkadots” on March 17. Chasner is set to make his Ultra Miami debut later this week on the JACKED Stage, making the timing of this release one that’s perfect.
During Tomorrowland Winter, AFROJACK will be flexing his might behind the decks with multiple sets, including one on their Mainstage and another on their Mountain Stage, as well as one under his Kapuchon alias. Then, he’ll be flying directly to Miami to dominate the decks at Ultra Music Festival for another round of performances.
“Ultra is the number one festival in the world for artists to showcase their new work, shows, etc. All of the industry is there, and it’s important to impress fans,” he said when asked about the upcoming festival in South Florida. AFROJACK’s upcoming sets at Ultra Miami include his set on the Mainstage, where he stated that his favorite memories have been made over the years, along with a set under his Kapuchon alias and a Nick van de Wall Classics set on the JACKED stage that shouldn’t be missed. “I worked on my upcoming sets over the last three months. I hope everyone will like them!”
Whether you’re dancing in the snowy landscape of Tomorrowland Winter, basking in the sun at Ultra Music Festival in Miami, or prepping for any other festival this year that AFROJACK is taking the stage at – don’t sleep on his sets if you’re looking to have a great time!
