Okeechobee Music & Arts Festival releases an official statement in response to the death of attendee, Steven Nguyen.
Tragedy struck Okeechobee Music & Arts Festival this past weekend as an attendee of the festival, Steven Nguyen, was found dead. Reports of the apparent drowning first surfaced on Reddit and Twitter, and the story was later picked up by South Central Florida Life and WBRZ – a local news outlet from Baton Rouge, where Nguyen was from.
In the days since the news broke of Nguyen’s passing, members of his family, friends, and others in the scene have called for an official comment from the festival’s organizers as they looked for answers surrounding his untimely passing. Today, their calls were finally answered as Okeechobee released an official statement addressing the passing of Nguyen, stating that they refrained from commenting prematurely “out of respect to those affected by this tragedy.”
“We are saddened by the passing of one OMF attendee this past weekend,” the statement from Okeechobee reads. “We send our deepest condolences to this individual’s loved ones, friends, and all of those who have been impacted by this tragic loss.” The festival is continuing to work with local authorities as they determine the cause of death.
