The Chainsmokers’ new music video captures Manhattan’s charm and sheds light on navigating conflicting emotions of past relationships.
After almost two years of hiatus right after their World War Joy tour in 2019, The Chainsmokers have delighted fans when they started teasing new music at the start of 2022 to signal a new era for their music launch. They have also taken to TikTok to churn out snippets of light-hearted content, live stream their production journey, and show off humorous duets with other fellow artists in a comeback to engage fans on the video viral app.
More recently, The Chainsmokers released “iPad,” the second single from their forthcoming album, along with a Kid Studio-directed music video for the bouncy track. This song draws heavily on the influence of their signature hit songs like “Roses” and “Closer” from 2016. Written exclusively by Drew Taggart and Alex Pall, the duo have boldly declared that this bop is going to be the “song of summer.”
The narrative of the music video brilliantly captures the charm of New York City. Channeling a main character type energy, the video follows the setting of local streets with highlights of different personas who experience the phases of a haunting relationship. Describing the song as “the happiest breakup record ever,” the band knew what the fans want and deliver exactly that – raw and honest lyrics that accompany an emotion-fueled melody to revive the nostalgic year of 2016.
With two impressive singles already released in 2022, the new year looks solid for The Chainsmokers as they start to hit the road again, along with releasing their upcoming yet-to-be-titled album.
